Pricey bass plugs

Alright everyone.

I'm getting my gear together for the summer (can't wait) and I've been looking at plugs like the megabass zonk Gataride, IMA Komomo.


Are they worth the money over the cheaper ones I've got already or should I find the fish first.

You should find the fish first , start reading learning about the fish and there habbits , the ground they feed over and start reading about water craft , it will all help you . It wouldn't harm having a couple of the more expensive , better quality, proven fish catchers,

I've been looking into it for ages mate. I'm not expecting to chuck a lure anywhere and catch. Just want to give myself the best chance i can.

The Maria Chase bw is a good lure to start with, silver Holo is the best colour but I think they have discontinued that colour, but you might get lucky and find one. The komomo is worth having in your box as well

If you fancy some of the Komomo II's, PM me. I went a tad overboard in last winters sales, so have a few 'swaps' BNIB. NOT the JFP before anyone asks!

If over par has a spare chameleon flashing plate komomoII then go for that one. That thing catches fish anywhere and is particularly good over very shallow ground.

Thanks for the replies and pms lads. Theres far too many plugs to choose from for a beginner.

Had another poor session with the bait off the rocks yesterday so I want to start with the lures asap.

I caught my first coley of the year though. I didn't think they came in till it warmed up.

Try soft plastics, lie Senkos, Sluggos etc. much cheaper than the hard bodied expensive Japanese plugs and work just as well, look at Henry Gilbeys blog for more information: Henry Gilbey - Blog

Buy cheap lures and you will end up spending more in the long run because they don't last ,buy a half a dozen proven lures which catch in the areas your going fish and learn how to use them,

Five and half has been my best local bass but there has got to bigger around its putting the time in to find them

There has been quite a few good catches on lures around the north east..The best I have had is a 3lb sea trout but the better catches seem to come from st abbs and eyemouth

I've had plenty mate, bass, wrasse, pollock, cod, Coley, mackerel to name a few

I just always thought our coast was more set up for lrf, I know there is bass around as had them on bait but didn't think there was enough to target them with lures.

The bass fishing isn't prolific but you can do ok. With experience you'll eventually learn a few marks and the best time and tides to fish them. Intertidal hard ground over big tides is a good place to start.

I wouldn’t advise you to go out and buy a handful of the "best" (most expensive) bass lures, you could spend a lot of money very quickly this way and if your not fishing the right places its a waste of money. I know some who have plenty top of the range lures in there lure bags but will often choose a cheap 2-3 quid lure to fish with (and catch plenty on them). For the price, these savage gear plugs (21g) are hard to beat and I have caught fish on them locally and witnessed plenty fish caught on them.

I usually pick a more expensive lure to fish with now but still use these now and again. If your just learning different places your bound to loose a few lures along the way also, which I can’t imagine being very fun with some being £20+.

I think I'm just about sorted now. I'm probably gonna fish with my cheap lures and if something hits it then I'll start fishing the good gear after a few more goes.

And thanks overpar for the komomos. Hope I get something on them.

Has anyone had anything decent in north east on lures?

The the best bass I have had of the north east coast was 65cm's sub surface and managed a 60 cm of the top and seen my mate lose a bigger one throwing the hooks as he beached it and the next wave beating him to it.
As already mentioned , the bass fishing isn't prolific but they are there . My last two season s have been ok but I have been down on north east numbers compared to previous seasons . But you never know we might be due a good year class with the mild winters we have had
