Only my personal opinion but having read of quite a few incidents of the cree headlights burning out or batteries exploding whilst charging etc. - then I know what I would rather have strapped to my head!
As with anything it is personal choice but I would rather pay for quality myself.
The batteries are only likely to explode by using the cheap batteries and charger that a lot of the Crees are sold with. Using decent quality batteries (e.g. Panasonic about £10 a pair) and a decent charger with a cut off feature (Nitecore i4 for about £16) and this shouldn't happen. I've had my 1600 lumens cree headlamp for about 3-4 years and not had any bother and I've just recently bought another cree (3000 lumens) for a measly £5 and can't fault them so far.
