pulling out of snags with braid

Thinking of trying some braid for the rough ground and wondering if any people on here use it for rough ground fishing and what do you use for pulling out of snags as dont fancy it cutting into my skin when pulling out of a snag.

take a length of broom shank or some sort thatll fit in ya box easy to wrap line round to pull snag out and also can use it to kill your catch :)

Braid = 0 stretch

On multi keep thumb on reel, place rod horizontal with line walk back or pull back. you'll need to do this 3-4 ft max.

On fixed spool hold spool same process. No need for chair leg at all... :O

I know i'm probably get a post telling me that this is the wrong way and why... So please tell me, never knew why people put their hands in a dangerous position with mono under tension.... :)

yo, where da fash, spot on thumb on spool stops the spindle snapping/bending:)

still like me welders gloves though:D:D

the hands of death i call em on da boat, when they come out the gears gone:D:D:D:D

sometimes its the best fun i get on da boat:D:D:D:D:D,see abodys faces when they reel in a snap swivel:D:D:D:D

I will say that this is wrong and could seriously damage your reel and/or rod.

For one thing when using strong braid for rock fishing (50lb to 80lb with it being so thin), holding the reel when pulling out of a snag could cause the bending of the internal spindle, could bend the spool or break the bale arm if using the fixed spool. You could also damage the drag if too much pressure is applied, and thumb pressure ain't gonna do much, unless you want a burnt thumb :D.

Do what the likes of my friends 'codseeker' and 'lambtonworm' said. Use a bit wood or metal bar with some grip, thus will save your hands from injury and your reels from the pressure when dealing with braid and a snag. :)

yep piece of broom handle

apart from bedding the line right in on a multi the other dangers are as Andy2009 says

you could always get someone else to do the hard work for you....mind they only ever offer to do it the once
that was with rough diamond and im guessing braid will be 50 X worse

I personally hate watching people using the spool on a multi as a snag pull out tool, it's got to totally f**k up yer line lay out on the spool even if you do pull free, so next cast may be a disaster. Not so bad with fixed spools I would have thought but having said that I was helping my mate pull out of a snag a few weeks ago, him pulling back with his fixed spool and me with his line over me shoulder and pulling with the hands, then suddenly, crack, line snapped and whipped back into me mitts, oucher, blood everywhere.
It was mono like.

whilst trying to pull out a snag using the reel spool (multi) and thumb option on spool will result in the line cutting into the layers of line on your reel so what i do if snagged if i get gear back or not let some line go off before ya reel in mek sure it doesnt cut in to ya line on the spool if ya nah s what a means :D

:Dline lay not so important on a boat, but i much prefer my welders gloves:)

i also prefer pulling out braid, its so much easier:) with mono the stretch is amazing, and makes it very hard work:(

just ordered some braid for the rough ground, so going to try the wielders glove approach or a bit of wooden broom handle, sure they will both work well.
