Re-ringing a rod

Just a quick question on your thoughts of re-ringing a multiplyer rod to fixed spool or vice versa? Are the blanks made specifically for a certain reel type or is it purely down to the rings and the spacing of them?

Most rods will work with either a multi or fixed spool. The softer match tip rods however are better for multi use. Fixed spool rods tend to have a stiffer thru action. But and a big but, this all changes with continental type rods, these are generally fixed spool only.
One thing to remember when rod building is to find the spine of the rod, if you roll and flex the rod in hand you will find its stiffer in a certain plane. For multi use rings go on the inside softer side and for fixed spool on the stiffer side. Don't always trust the manufacturer to have got this right but any rod builder worth his salt this will be second nature.

Just my opinion & what Iv always thought to be true
The spline for casting rods needs to have the spline on the outside of the rod for casting strength regardless of reel type.
I would only have the spline on the inside for spinning type rods where the strength is needed for reeling in etc
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong

I don't think it really matters as long as the rings are on the spine. If not it can feel like the rod is twisting itself.

f/spool set up you are casting against the spline i call it the spine making rod feel a tadge stiffer.

realy dos,nt make much diff to me wth spine or against it.
