Reel service - recommend an oil/lube

on my smaller multipliers i always thoroughly flush bearings with lighter fluid, and then a couple drops of rocket fuel, smooth bearings after that. Any propietery grease to handle and pinion bearings.

I used to use lighter fluid to clean the bearings but it leaves a bit of white residue,
I was told by one of the tournament casters to us brake cleaner as it leaves no residue leaving the bearings cleaner, you can go one step further and take the clip from the side and the cover off then clean them its surprising how much more crap comes out, then I put rocket oil in either yellow or tournament oil, but only a drop or 2 if you dont want the reel to run as fast or your not 100% confident with the reel the red oil woild be better or even a drop of light general purpose oil would be sufficient if your not wanting to tryn hit the horizon

got a few dvds on reel service and maintenance and if you only use for fishing and not tourny casting, john holden ,dave docra and another guy whose name i forget, say engine oil, or 3in 1 oil or simolar is good enough and i can hit 100yds + depening on size of bait

I strip out the bearings and remove one of the bearing side plates (a bit fiddly) and place then open side down in a small glass jar and cover with "precision pars cleaner" a bit like "plus gas" then stick this into my £20 Aldi ultrasonic cleaner for a couple of cleaning cycles. I let then dry naturally, still face down. Once dry a couple of drops of yellow rocket fuel then the bearing side plates on. I do this about every 6 months or so. I use yellow rocket fuel as it is thixotropic and stays in the bearings for longer.

Standard 3in1 oil should do the trick

Cheers guys, I used 3/1 oil and it's running a lot smoother think I'll have to show my reel some regular tlc.
