Hi lads im after some advice,just bought my first century rod and would like to know from anyone who has one how they secure the reelseat. Do you just rely on the coaster thats part of the reelseat or do you glue in position aswell, also the two rubber collars that are on the rod butt, do they simply just push up against either end of the reelseat? would be gratefull for any help. Yer mate, it's just secured using the one coaster supplied. I ain't had any problems with mine like but the actual reelseat has had some bad reports. I always carry a couple of spare coasters on a sesh just incase the thing cracks but after 3 years it's still going strong.

As the man said above the coaster on the reel seat is enough to keep it on the rod without moving and if you have any concerns about it moving just wrap some black insulation tape above and below the reel seat just incase.
If your putting the reel seat in the reel up position you might get a wrap of tape under the reel seat as well to stop the effect of the coaster biting into the shrink tube as much.

My century reel seat has just given up on me after 6 months the scew down part that locks the reel down has snapped from the screwwy partso you have to knock the reel pretty hard to get it off the rod. Also the rubber that protects the coaster screw (has centrury written on it) started splitting and falling to pieces the very 1st time i used it. If i was you mate i would change the whole seat to maybes an abu grip lock and use the century one as a spare

The Century reelseats and the Abu Griplock are in my opinion the two best reelseats on the market. I have both and they are brilliant (though the century one i have hasn't even been used).
As my mate above said there is sometimes the odd problem, but you can come to expect that if your constantly fishing regularly or every weekend when possible, which he does

I'm for fortunate enough to have both aswell mate. Both are smashing the abu works by when you tighten your reel on it pushes the plastic into the shrink and it holds via that. So you have to set it up every time You set up. The century ones you can set and it will be there every time you set up. Both are great quality and both work very well just a choice in what you want Mate

ive always used the abu griplock with a trigger. cant fault it, i use 5500's, 6500's, 7000's and 7hts with no problem...BUT, if your using a Penn 515 Mag2 or 525 Mag2, it wont seat properly! This (in my opinion) is a problem with the reel though - the reel foot is way to small to support the size of the reel. Have anything on the end of your line with a little weight to it....and watch the reel dance!!

just wrap some insulation tape in the middle of the reelseat this stops the reel from moving around in my opinion the century 1,s are crap like you say if you slightly over tighten them they jump the thread or get stuck fuji by far the best this even happens with the abu,s aswell but they are still better than the century,pacbay make some good 1,s also just my opinion.

The century reelseat on my kompressor accommodates 6500 and 7ht no problem but it can't tighten down on a sl30 as the bracket on the reel is to small
. Funny ehh as it's the biggest reel out of the 3. Couldn't believe this when tried during a sesh one day but it is a fact and unless daiwa have changed the design on the sl30 bracket it still applies.

Na mate honestly though I use an Abu griplock on my Century Eliminator and both the Penn 515 and 525 mag2's fit nicely on the Abu reelseat. Dunno if this problem only happens with certain size Abu griplock reel fittings...

The Abu wobbles with certain reels and gets stuck so you have to prize the bloody thing off just to get your reel off!
Fuji are the best by a mile.

Once again thanks for all the advice, going to try the insulation tape around the reelseat if that doesnt hold it tight i might just get a fuji reelseat. just a thought has anyone tried using araldite to fix the seat onto the rod butt, I know this would be a more permanent job but as I always use my reels in the up position it wouldnt be a problem for me not being able to move it.

i wouldn't recommend using araldite mate your best of getting a fuji you cant go wrong in my opinion they the best
