regeonal casting

Way back in 2004 Barney & myself travelled to 4 different venues to help run UKSF Opens (NWSA, Kent Sportscast, Weymouth & Wales - All where UKSF Affiliated clubs). This was on top of the usual UKSF events that where run, making 12 in total.
I thoroughly enjoyed these events and we where made very welcome, which added another 1200+ miles to my casting calendar that year (I was also helping John French at Kent Sportscast out).
What I suggest, is that through your respective Club reps, is to write to the UKSF Committee with your suggestion to be reviewed at the next Committee meeting.
Demanding things via internet forums is probably the quickest way of getting a short, quick answer - 1 sylable, 2 letters

i think you missed the point led, i remember you coming up to the n,west very well. but how many casters came up to paticipate and enjoy the exellent northern hospitality? what i was suggesting [not demanding] was that it would,nt be impossible to have some sort of uksf event in the north, with casters coming up to compete from other areas. as for the theme of the topic, i consider it a valid subject to be debated on this forum, or for that, any other casting forum --- bill

Q - how many Northern casters (omit Dave & Marcus Hammill) have travelled to Kent or Steyning in recent years ?
Some casters travel more than others and all want to be casting in reasonable conditions and to stay dry.
With the ever increasing cost of fuel (diesel at 105/litrs) and the probability of getting caught in major traffic jams (too manay cars on the roads on Sundays - should be casters only) is the probable reason.
On my last visit to NWSA it took me just over 5hrs to get home - M6 from J33 to J1 was pants - stop/start all the way. My last visit to Wales - Fathers for Justice roped themselves to the 7 bridge, if I had my way it would have been around their necks and tossd them over the side.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for regional events, but I ain't doing it all by myself.

thanks for the reply and your understanding. i appreciate its both expensive and harrowing driving the long distances to events. perhaps the thoughts of having an event or events oop north, may be an incentive to casters up here to attend huntingdon and other southern areas more especially if the comp was done on a two leg basis, --- knackered north casting against fresh south and vice versa. [humour]. at least it would share out the harrasment and expense a bit.
i would love to see a uksf event down in cornwall but there is alot to concider as in getting there court here toilet facilaty,s a flatish feild and so on + who would drive all this way for casting. from huntingdon its over 360 miles each way

you missed out our daily dropped cow s--- and the fact our best interpretor BAZ is casting here to explain all. aye conditions can be rough, but up here the lads are up to it. ps. baz set off early lunch-time today [short distance] to fish a match -- 4pm till 8pm. tough as arld boots that lad.We all love to cast and cast against the best there is.
I love the NWSA venue when the grass is short and the field isn't like a shallow pond. The banter is great and the everyone is happy to translate for me too.
Perhaps something like a 2 day event is a way forward ?

Here's an idea which could work if the UKSF and the affiliated clubs wanted to work together to hold regional GP events.
There are 4 GP events each year held at UKSF HQ in Huntingdon. I would suggest that in parallel and on the same day, one regional club holds a similar GP event. As there are more than 4 regional affiliated clubs and if they all wanted to hold a GP, a rotational basis is used to decide which club holds the regional events and each club would get a chance to hold a parallel GP event every other year.
As a competitor you would choose which event you where attending and maybe would need to book ahead as is the case now. The results from both events would be collected and the winners decided in the usual manner i.e. longest cast. The interesting aspect of this is that because. conditions may be different at each location the choice of which event to attend may be a good or bad one and could affect your position on the day. I suspect that because of this some regional events could be very popular due to their topography and prevailing wind conditions.
I think that such an event could work and "telegraphic" casting events have been held in the past between East and West coast casting clubs in the USA.
This is a way to embrace the regions and does not force people to attend a venue which is further than they currently have to attend. Indeed, they may be able to reduce their travelling considerably. I suggest the final event is still held at HQ Huntingdon.
