i have a afaw clubman plus fixed spool rod,ive looked online about how to remove the reel seat as i want to put a movable one on,the glued in one is a bit far up the butt for me plus i want to give casting a go with a fixed spool reel down the butt and some back casting.on another forum its saying saw through the seat with a small hacksaw then put a flat blade in the cut and twist ,has anyone tried doing this as im a bit worried about marking the blank.any advice

Try wrapping it in a cloth then soak it the cloth with boiling water this should loosen the glue, it might take a few soakings depending on how well its been glued

its a factory built rod, theres is a small type of collar up agaist the seat that blends it in, ill have to remove this, dont know if its just high build .

I've done the hacksaw method before, I was really careful and managed not to damage the rod, the excess glue came off with a bit heat. I am not recommending that you do this, there are far better qualified lads on here to tell you the best way to do it, but it worked for me.

Hi peter yes that's the only way I've ever been able to remove them I use a dremel and very carefully put a groove in it then as you said just put a flat blade screwdriver and twist normally they just split the hardest bit is the metal hood on the bottom sometimes the plastic just splits away sometimes it doesn't and you need to cut through the hood aswell.

its saying you can cut the front part(where the reel foot goes in)with a hacksaw then theres a line down back of the seat and you can run a stanley blade down it then open with a flat blade.ill see what other advive i get then ill just have to go for it--lol

I cut it in a bit of a spiral because it was easier to hold it and cut like that, cutting through the metal collar first then carefully prise it open. If you are going ahead with this, take your time, don't be too keen with the saw.

done it but was a bit of a clart.the collars at each side of the seat that i thought would be high build were metal so i had to cut through them, when i got the seat off there was another layer glued onto the blank,it looked like a wrap of carbon then the seat had been glued onto this.got that off with a stanley knife(peeled off in thin strips).then used blade to remove as much glue then a rub with sand paper. put a new bit of shrink on and jobs a gud un.now to try casting with the fixed spool down the butt--lol
