Had a phone call earlier this evening about reports a fisherman had been lost at Quarry hole Newbiggin, after speaking to the coast guard he informed me that it was just a training exercise. He then told me that as they were doing the exercise he was approached by two fisherman who then asked him what they (coast guards) were doing? when he replied they were doing a training exercise, one of the fisherman replied -Have you nowt f*****g better to do!! the coast guard could not believe it and to be hounest neither could I, Thankfully not all us anglers have that attitude and let's just hope those two guy's never need there help!

I think everyone on NESA would agree that the training they do would come in very handy if ever we needed their help. Keep up the good work lads but hope i only ever see you when training.

Reading your post I initially presumed the fisherman seen the coastal effort and may have came rushing to assistance, as many would.

Then finding out its an excersise, adrenaline pumping, lashing out at the coast guards for fooling u?

LOL, was my initial assumption...

Not anglers, not fishermen, just pillocks with rods:mad:

Gary :)

mindless idiots like that shouldnt own a rod and certainly wouldnt deserve any help at all if needed those lads have a job to do and what a damn good job they are doing of it too....show a bit of f@$!#&g respet

I second that buddy, they should be respected and never taken for granted... :)

RNLI, keep up the excellent work and service you provide, i among many others salute to you.

Thanks for the support lads.

Me being an angler as well as a Coastguard, I am really keen on getting the safety message out to anglers about staying safe when we are out fishing.

The reason we have exercises is to put into practice the weekly training we do i.e first aid, search types, safe casualty handling etc.

I was part of an organising committee that recently held a full morning exercise up at Newton, where we organised the safe rescue of an angler on the Emblestones with the assistance of the RNLI, another angler who'd fallen 30ft off the rocks at Football Hole and had to be rescued by our cliff rescue team and another casualty who was despondent. This gave us the chance to put our skills into practice and to work with teams we don't always get to work with to ensure that, if this was for real we can help return people to their families safely.

At the end of the day we are all volunteers who, like the RNLI want to help people in our communities.

Stay Safe!

Really disappointing to hear about "fisherman" going on this way, anyone with half a brain knows that one day (but hopefully not) these rescue drills might help save their life. Nothing more to say that hasn't already been said about these idiots so ill just say, keep up the good work to the RLNI!

yous do an outstanding job keep up the good work, theres all ways one moron who goes on like this, but i bet he/they would soon change their tune in an hour of need:)

last time i saw them doing a excercise at boaties bay, south shields, they were interupted and called into action at trow rocks, they were ready at a minutes notice, they do a cracking job, they rescued 2 young lads that time.

what a lot of people forget is they are volunteers they dont do it because they have to they do it because they want to help others and could do without comments being made by idiots !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

personally speaking, if i fiound out that it was someone i know or fish with, that would be the end of them as friends full stop. The rnli and the VOLUNTEER lads do a fantastic job to keep us safe, They dont need that kind of sh!t.
Maybe one day they will need their services and come to appreciate what these guys do and how imperative it is that they have such situations to learn from.

If anyone of these lads is reading this it would be nice of them to man up and formally apollogise.
