Rightio Lads wierdest fish you\"ve caught from the shore???

Nice one BigRon

Apart from reeling in a foul hooked sand eel on seaham beach a canny few years ago me and the lads were fishing the Heugh at Hartlepool and I pulled in the strangest looking fish which I not seen since. It was about 10\'\' long with spines but the underside was bright blue and yellow with white spots the size of smarties.
Can\'t remember what type it was, maybe one of you lot may know?
Just found a site that is worth a look - web.ukonline.co.uk/aquarium

August this year, west coast of scotland. Still don\'t know what it was! About 4\' long, fin pattern a bit pollock-ish but very round in the body - breamish, but exactly the same colour as the goldfish in the bairns fish tank

Fishydad I think your on about what we call in Hartlepool as a polymog!

Its very much like a weever fish with Nasty spines that are venomous I have heard you get plenty off the Heugh have also seen a couple of them caught off the south gare.

I had a monster one of these about 2 and a half pound from the twin steps about 6-7 year ago, best bet is just to cut the hook and sort of kick it gently back into the sea, dont handle it at all.

3 doggies were caught thru the season about 2 years ago in the Alnwick Sea Anglers club. I remember as a bairn walking along Boulmer beach and often finding mermaids purses, so I don\'t think catching them now is anything unusual One of the lads has a pouting this season from the beach. I also remember one of the cobles landing a mullett in it\'s nets as a bairn. It was still alive as they\'d kept it in a bucket and they were gonna give it to an aquarium in the area!
