A couple of the lads work at Cragside Hall for the national trust and have promised me a free days fishin on the river coquet. Never been before, anyone shed a bit light on it? Not be for a few weeks yet like. I've been told i'll be catchin me first wild brownie and maybe me first salmon??

Any tips or local knowledge would be much appreciated..

the coquets a cracking little salmon river.the bit you will be fishing is probably at rothbury. The brown trout season doesnt start til 22nd march and your chances of a salmon up there at this time of year are pretty slim.Theres plenty of trout there tho.Go back in august time and your chance of a salmon will be much better

If you get the chance Andy, try and contact Colin Rose Morgan, he is the bee's knees when it comes to fishing the Coquet. I believe he is now a bailiffe but he will supply you with all the info you need.
Cheers seddo
