RM/RN Cod Championships at Usan!

The annual Cod Championships were held on Monday 23 December 2011. Rob and I travelled North in the fog to Arbroath and decided to travel straight to the mark.
The fishing was always going to be difficult due to the conditions. None of the locals were out fishing and so that told an obvious story!
I had a Coalie for 11oz at 32cm on the first night and Rob blanked! After the first match we met the other guys!
At this point I must congratulate Scotty for his bag of fish. At his undisclosed local mark he managed over the course of one hour to wriggle out of the kelp a 20 odd pound bag of Cod. One came in at 10lb 11oz. Excellent fishing! Well done mate. Just goes to show the difference that a local lads knowledge can make!
The second nights fishing resulted in a few small codling and saw Robs total go to approximately 7lb. Given the conditions Rob done well but Scotty won hands down.
I was prepped for the fishing to be poor and so still managed to enjoy the experience.
I fished two rods extremely hard on the second day and this will prepare me for the competitions to come with a few more lessons identified!
I am thinking of joining a local angling club and I am looking for suggestions from members of this site! I am local to North Shields.
Despite the lack of fish we all came away with a few goodies. I managed to gain a new pair of fishing trousers, a match fishing (full) rig wallet and a new RM Sea Angling embroided fishing jacket! Plus I've discovered new marks and enjoyed a couple of days with some great lads!
Merry Christmas to all! All the best, Wayne.

For some reason the picture didn't upload! I'll put it on now!

Cheers lad's...well spotted! Ha, I obviously looked at yesterdays date! All the best for the Christmas and New year to all!

Local clubs Tynemouth, Whitley Bay, Seaton Sluice and Blyth mate.

Tynemouths, Whitleys, and Blyths (I think) boundaries are up to Blyth Pier.

Sluices are from the river Tyne (Included) to Amble Pier.

Contact the lads who post the club results for more information to the various clubs. They'll be more than helpfull.

It's a good way to actually make yourself get out fishing when the condtions are poor, which have been most of the winter. Hope this helps.

Nice bag of fish. :D
