a bit too late for the guy lost off hartlepool, but the rnli are launching a must have piece of kitin a few months

http://rnli.org.uk/who_we_are/news/news_detail?articleid=102166

fall over board, it activates itself, nd the unit on yourboat sets the alarm of and tells the coastguard your position.

promises to be more efficient and quicker to respond than epirb, and as the unit transmitting your position is on the boat, battery life isn\'t as big an issue
don\'t know about cost yet, but what price salvation??

Mike Charlton and I spoke quite a bit about these devices at the cheque hand-over last week.
From what I\'d seen on the TV and what Mike was telling me, they are an excellent piece of kit.

Fall overboard and they can track YOU - not the boat.

Just like the guy at Hartlepool - how many private boat owners go out on their own?........quite a few I would imagine. A slip or a jolt of the boat when you\'re standing off balance and in the water you could go.
As it turned out, when they found the \"Bonny Lass\" - the Hartlepool fishermans\' boat, the engine was still running whilst the fisherman could\'ve gone over, miles away from where the boat was recovered........he\'d gone in and the boat had just carried on.

Using the MOB Guardian, they would\'ve been able to locate the fisherman.

From what Mike was telling me, they\'re not cheap........but as you say Mark, \"what price salvation\".

Might have more to say about these devices, soon.
