looking for a rod second hand for my match fishing on tynemouth pier but also for fishing the fish quay and local beaches tynemouth ,whitley bay so clean to mixed ground got around 140 to spend

Have a look at the tip tornado range curtis, ttsm or tts, then there's the kompressor s or reelsport response which is a century blank.

As you can tell I like century ! But there are many more from zziplex, greys, etc, but I've never used them.

Sounds like you want something like an AFAW match or tournament match, they have good casting ability with a decent match tip. On the pier anything over 13/14ft will be a real struggle to cast with the wall behind you.

I have an AFAW TM and rate it very highly, could also try to pick up a zzippie HST, 4500hpm or original tip tornado or CME.

Dont go for something too heavy!!

Rods like Komp S and SS will be overkill, great for cod but wont show the bites from flats, whitings like the match type rods.

This ;)

Though I'd add it's the MK1 TT Sport (with the orange whippings) you want, brilliant fishing rod and will do everything you want. Only got shot of mine as I got a Primo Synchro which did the same job but better.

Also worth a look at the C3LD, though bite detection isn't the best they are a forgiving rod with plenty of power if needed.

I think you should get the norm AFAW Match. The Tourny version is more pricey and Pokey!

I know a few who have the normal match and love it. Don't think it's to long either for the pier.

I love my AFAW TM. However, I used to struggle to get the best out of it at times.

im sure i saw an advert on the board in blyth wilkinsons for a sonik 14ft sk4 £160or £140?? cracking rods, nice and light, good for the beach, pier and rocks imo. love mine, just as much as my anubis and carbon metal crest :D

Can well all think about what where posting here...

The lad is asking for a'second hand' rod for 'fishing the pier and river and not too stiff'. Most relpies have comment on a lot of rods that would be spot on for the job, but for example from another post 'get a sonik sk4 14ft'. That is massive overkill.

There are many excellent rods that are second hand out there for what he needs and the price he wants to pay, for examples...

-Century CM
-Century TT match
-Abu Conolon Exodus (brand new for less than £140)
-Zziplex 2500 / or 3500

..... this list is endless, may I say more.:D:D

(Also a forgot who said you can't see flattie bites on a kompressor s or ss but that has to be one of the great oops you may have dropped yaself in it moments... of course you can see flattie bites, maybe not a sensitive on the rod tip but still visable... simples;))

i have a 2500m, 12ft. lovely match rod albeit slightly old model but still pretty light, 12ft should suit a young lad too. I've just rebuilt it in Black with Gold trim and BNOGs with new japanese shrink.

I pm'd Curtis about it as i thought it ideal for him.
