Sorted myself out with a half decent rod and reel this week. Nothing fancy but new. Wondered what you guys generally do to care for your kit.
Wipe down with a dry cloth, wd40, other? especially reel care.
Looking to keep it half decent till I feel a need to upgrade. Any tips?

`i have never washed a reel under the tap i have got reels from the 70s my cleaning routine is to smeers a thin coat of grease on all the insides of the reel and the out eide wipe the reel with a light spray of wd40 on a cloth and spray the reel seat feet lightly after every trip but leave it out of the bag to let the fumes go i think if you wash it in water and there is sand on the reel after a beach trip it seams to wash the sand into spool

Cheers fellas. Pretty much what I thought. Don't think I'll be washing the reel under the tap unless it ends up in the drink. I'd probably give it a full strip if that happens anyhoo.

I just leave my reels in my fishing bag till the next jaunt , I take them apart at the end of the winter season , re grease and clean and oil the bearings, as for the rods , I give them a spray with wd40 from time to time , then left in the rods bags in the garage , I have some rods 15 years old and the rings show little signs of rust tbh . I fish mainly oct till feb so they arn't in use that much
