Rod and reel

Alright lads wondering if any if you's could help me out. My mate is getting into fishing and wants to buy himself a new rod since the old one he had he got rid of when he moved out from his mams. He doesn't want to spend loads of money but something which is decent enough to use for river/beach and also daylites in the summer as well. He needs a rod and reel and wondering if you's could recommend some? I told him to go to rutherfords in Sunderland to have a look in and see what they have so think I'm gonna head up with him at some point. Cheers for the help lads.

Look on eBay for a shimano 8000 size reel mate and whilst your there you could look at rods on there, there's been some canny bargains on lately.

Think he was wanting to buy brand new like lads from a local tackle shop if possible and then he could see it in the flesh etc. Thanks got your input lads.

What those sonik rods like? Seen a few knocking about.

I would go for a Daiwa Sand Storm rod with a Penn Surfblaster reel probs get both for about £180

Ill 2nd the penn surf blaster 8000. I got the reel, penn rampage 13' surf rod and travel tube for £170. The reel is lovely and even better with braid.
