Going to have a few trips out this summer but havent been out on the boats for 3 years or so so need a decent rod and reel for mainly wreck fishing.

12/20 lb be the way to go? but after looking at a few reviews and stuff it seems some 30-50 class rods are softer than some 12-20 class ones so its a bit of a minefield

I know its problably a "you get what you pay for" market but any recommendations on a decent all round rod that will stand up to anything would be well appreciated

SONIK SK4 12-20 boat rod (similar to Keiths Fladden Maxximus) and again Shimano TLD 15 ... (with Dynon 3000 55lb braid)

Thanks for the ideas , didnt think about fladen or sonik at all to be honest although both seem to be available for £80 ish
Norman do you think the 20-30lb class would be a lot more beefier ?

Yeah norman are they ok to work say a 1lb lead if needed in deep water ? last rod was a bit weak at trying to pull out snags in deep water

In general we use 12 oz weights or 14-16oz pirks in water to 200ft depth (sometimes deeper) with no problem with snags etc , just point the rod down at the snag to keep it straight (not 90 degree bends)and let the drift snap you off .....

cheers

in answer to the 1lb weight question I would say that no it's not comfy using the uber thin rods with 1lb of lead...however with braid and lighter weights (10-12oz) I really don't think there's the need to fish with 1lb of lead

unless of course when you say deep water you're heading for Norway?

Wasn't suggesting anyone buy from there, I was just saying that's the one we use.

The lad at Seaton Delaval who has an ebay shop, Flashtackle I think, does them for £55 but he won't let you collect so postage is £10, probably better off visiting your local tackle shop.
