my mate got his greys grxs stuck together today i think he pushed the joint too hard, does anyone have any tips on getting it apart. thanks

happened to me once i uused boiling water pored over the spigot area it will expand try pullig it apart . then wait till it cools down and it should come apart .

you can allso use a sliding hammer inside the but of the rod it must be a good fit or it wiil damage the tip .insert at the bottom of the but and let it slide inside and it will loosing the tip. only use this method if allothers fail

sometimes the action of removing the butt cap will help you release the two parts ,something about equalising the suction inside the blanks

try this:

get someone to hold it at each end by the tip and butt, then swing it gently like a skipping rope whilst pulling gently, the flexing and pulling seems to help as its swung around.

its worked for me a couple of times with stuck rods

rod stuck

hi tony this happend to me just remove the but cap at the bottom of the rod slide a length of copper pipe inside just tape it soft with a rubber hammer jaifish tynemouth member

try arctic spray from the plumb centre, its for freezing water in pipes that have no isolation,be very carefull as freezing will shrink the composite and to much may harm the joint, its a last chace sort ov thing, failing that try contacting greys at alnwick they might be able to inseart the mandrle from the butt side and free the tip.

No - no - no.......DO NOT use boiling water, excessive force, chemicals or ram anything up the butt (ermm so to speak).

Simplest, easiest and SAFEST (as far as the rod is concerned) is how Mark has described. It needs no drastic pulling - just about 3 rotations and it should come apart.

This method was suggested to me years ago by an old NESA member "AndyB", after I'd sruggled with all sorts of alternative methods - none of which worked.

Rubber - bike inner tubes or similar can help to get a grip. We gave up on My Mate Geordies once after coming off tynemouth pier - 14ft rod sticking out the window, had to drive through the tyne tunnel on the wrong side of the road.

Some good advice there ,I still remember moving around Boulmer in the car with a 14ft Apollo sticking out of the car window ,it took three of us at full welly to free it .

while were on the this question, whats is best used to lubricate the spigot, as my spigots getting tighter and tighter each time i use it

Mick, have a read of this (scroll down to section for 'joint control').

It works a treat. Done one of my old rods just to test this out and it fits and parts perfectly each time. Takes a bit of time to do but worth it imo.
(note to myself - get others rods done)
