Had a few hours on Roker this evening, with the sea flat I decided to try the Barrier again.

Got down there just before six and the pier was already busy but managed to get myself set up about 10 yards before the post. Things were pretty quiet with barely a touch while it was still light then as the sun started to set this little feller saved the blank:

Not long afterwards I had another little rattle which turned out to be a Three Bearded Slug:

High tide came and went and I was starting to think that that was going to be it for the night. But then as the ebb kicked in I got a half decent pull down and a short scrap later my first size codling of the season was on the pier:

Fished on until 10 pm but apart from a few little rattles that didn't amount to anything that was my lot. It was a lovely evening on the pier though the neck end was lit up like Blackpool Illuminations there were that many fishing. All fish fell to straight lug baits no more than 40 yards out.

Well done on the Codling mate, wish i just had used small hooks tonight. Seems there were plenty whiting towards the end of the Pier. **** corner as someone said walking off lool.

Canny session mate,I fished from around 6pm till 12 and BLANKED!!!! The lights on the pier looked a damn sight better than the ones in roker park!!!

Thanks mate, I will give that a go. Only been on Roker once and just trying to get to know the lay of the land. Is it dry land where the barrier is at low tide ? I assume the barrier means the gate you go through to get on the pier? Did I understand right.
I fished in between the two sets of steps and people said it was really rough ground but I only lost one lead all night. Had to reel in fast is all because you could feel the lead bumping through rocks on the way back. Not as bad as the rough stuff on SSP in my experience.

The barrier is the little post sticking up opposite the first set of steps. Rough ground tactics are mainly needed for here, but if you chuck 30-40yards you may be lucky and get your leads back, I find you get snagged less on the ebb. Hope this helps..
