fished around 100 yards from the end off both sides from 7 am till 2 pm used mackerel, prawn, mussell and squid. a fair few knocks but by the time we went to strike the fish had gone, my mate thought probably whiting.

there were some fishing at the end who didnt look as tough they were catching anything but one bloke fishing just before us got a half decent codling 2nd cast then another small one as i was leaving.

although i blanked it looked as if there were fish around and it was a good day in the fresh air, i was also able to significantly improve my casting by taking the time to learn off my mate who is far more experienced than me, haing only been fishing around 7 times a good day....

There you go mate. You might have blanked but that experience you've gained off your mate will make you a better angler and more successful in the future. Good luck.

you should try further up the pier mate, about 50 yrds before the end on the seaward side.size 1-0 hooks ,are you could try just outside the bunker.

I fished there last night, had a codling just size and a 3 bearded slug. Lost a bit of gear which surprised me, thought it was clean ground up that end.

Lad next to me had a couple of Flounder close in.

For the OP you would be better off getting some worm bait, even frozen runnydown is much more likely to get you fish than the baits you were using which IMHO work best in cocktails with worm.

stuart.
you should not lose gear if you were fishing beside the bunker.could of been some lost pots in the water.
On big tides you lose gear but with the small tide i am very surprised you lost gear.

I know Danny I was a bit shocked. Was fishing about 30 yards short of the bunker, got snagged up 4 times, each time it was the hook that was snagged as I felt the silicone sliders give and pull up against the weight each time I pulled for a break.

Wasn't just me - lad next to me got stuck a couple of times as well.

Aye sometimes you just have to go with what you've got.

Next time you are in the tackle shop get a couple of wraps of frozen runnydown and stick them straight back in the freezer when you get home. Add a bit of mussel and some frozen Mackerel and you will always have decent bait for if you fancy a session and can't get to the tackle shop.
