Roker pier.

Roker pier.

I went there for the first last week and spoke to some old hands. If you fish from the steps outover rather than into the bay its good ground for cod however it is snaggy. Most people seemed to be on the end at the lighthouse fishing out into the open sea. I saw one big whitie caught. Waves got a bit heavy and security guard came along and everyone had to leave. (health and safety).
Never experienced this before, being hoyed off a pier. No one to tell you that on the heugh or red light or Middleton at Hartlepool.
Come to think of it as a lad i was ordered off Steetly when the factory was open.(we used to sneak on).
That pier used to be an absolute goldmine however fished it a couple times recently and not that impressed.

yeah fishing into the sea rather than the bay is best... another good place is opposite the 1st steps, but again this is quite snaggy.

In an Easterly or South Easterly, you get some decent bags of codling in the bay, and it sometimes outfishes the outside.

The Barrier is good during or just after a big sea, however the ground is rough. The outside is rough all the way along until 10yds past the 2nd steps. As you get closer to the neck end, breakaways at least are a must on the flood tide.

On the roundhead, you'll again need at least breakaways during the flood and ebb, as there's a hell of a tide run. Fish can be caught all round the roundhead, but there are 1 or 2 hotspots on there. People will say that if theres any amount of fresh water coming out, it affects the fishing. It doesn't. Fresh water floats above salt water and I've had good bags with a lot of rain water coming out. Again, during or after a big sea is the best time, with fish into double figures a real possibility (I've had 5 over 8lb from here)

Going into the bay, the only consistent place is the neckend to long casting, with any movement increasing your chances. From the 2nd steps towards the shore, as said before, you'll need movement in the bay to be in with a decent chance. There are kelp beds dotted about from opposite the barrier to about 40yds from the low water mark. (If you have a look on a massive spring low, you can see them;))

Hope this helps

ah well maybe im just not able to cast far enough :). Just returned to fishing after not fishing for quite a few years. so that was my little info

Im thinking of heading down that way on friday/sat night or both :p
I will give it a go. When i have fished it in the past I have caught stuff in the bay.. all small mind, just seem to get better results from the other side. If I fish that side, I fish just after the last steps to the steps upto the round end.
thanks for info tho.

And as ever ................. Be prepared to catch bot all. Always remember it's not the pier's fault, piers are there so we don't have to have 90ft long legs and err 90ft long waders; where else would lighthouses hang about flashing all over the place and that and they also benefit the JetSki.

The trick with Roker, normally is to get yourself on the end, don't be shy!

And FFS don't pee in the doorway  Why do people do that? Do they think the weight of their imaginery penises will pull them over the side or is it fear of being laughed at by mermaids.

Because they have little ones and go in the doorway to hide it so no-one can see, I just hoy it owa the side and do it into the sea, nowt worse than the smell of pxxx

Aye yer right ROYBERT....Nowt easier or cleaner than just dangling it over the side of a pier and letting rip.

Last time I relieved myself over the side of a a pier, my mate also decided to do so beside me (we're just good mates honestly !). I said to him: "Wow that waters cold!"...Always wanting to go one better he replied "Yep and it's deep as well"

My thoughts exactly Charlie. This really annoys me and also when they use the wall as a toilet. It's much better fishing when you can smell the sea and not urine all the time. Do it over the side guys and if you are that small just hide it with your suit but tbh no-one gives a s**t, we're anglers not doggers.

Havin a pee.

Havin a pee.

I was on the other day and thought i,d have a pee. I asked one of the lads and was directed to the railing straight in front of me. So it went through the railings and joined the north sea. I did,nt even think for one minute people pee in the lighthouse door.
