Fished with my mate off the roundhead. Plenty of mackerel and coalies on light gear which is always good sport. On the lugworm I got a good few flatties (all varieties), a good few coalies, 2 mackerel, a weaver and a grey gurnard! My mate just didn't have as much luck, plenty of bites but just couldn't catch many. I've caught red gurnard off there before but never a grey. Has anyone else caught them before from there?

nope never caught a gurnard before in my life mate . i would love to try for them tho . did u bottom fish for it or did u spin for it ?
what rig was it on ? what bait? oo so many questions....

gurnard

gurnard

we have just got back from the mull yesterday, one of the lads had a 2 pound grey gurnard, caught on sandeel tipped with mackerel.

Was the first grey I've had although have had a red and a tub before. Codcatcher if you want me to be precise I was fishing a flapper rig with size 4 hooks, using lug, casting about 60 yards from the roundhead about 30 degrees east of the south pier lol. I dare say it will be very hard to target them in particular off our coast but putting a little scratching time in off Roker Pier can certainly boost your species cast.

will be makin size 6 and size 4 flappers to take down soon al my flappers are 2.0 at the moment like ..will defo try scratchin to add to species list . thanks mate much appreciated ...

No probs at all mate. Just make sure you take plenty of spare hooks as when using smaller ones they swallow them a lot and it's best to just cut it off rather than trying to rive it out. Pointless killing a fish for a 10p hook. Best of luck anyway bud
