Roker pier closed *temp sticky please*

Lets face it, SCC arent bothered about Anglers, 90% of whom cause too much bother for them with their thoughtless ways & the filth they leave around.
I would guess that unless we have a long settled spell, the pier will be closed for quite some time. They wont be in a hurry.

I suppose you can't really blame them, the pier is almost certainly more of a liability than an asset to the council.

Much cheaper and easier to leave it closed till next spring, given that any repairs may well be undone in the next big blow or there might not be time between blows, to get anything decent done anyway:(

If anything I'd say the opposite Bob. Considering the crap (sometimes literally) left behind by anglers and so-called anglers on Roker and the Wear marks Sunderland council remain pretty supportive of sea angling. The lads in the resorts office are never less than helpful, they've always tried to get the pier opened as soon as they can and there are no marks out of bounds unless they are very dangerous (old north pier) or dock company property. Sunderland council sponsor a yearly angling festival and allow unfettered access to Hendon prom for anglers and their vehicles all year round.

Compared to Hartlepool council who appear to actively hate sea anglers Sunderland council should be applauded (now get the bloody pier open!)

Lovely, just in time for my season start  Nice one SCC

Have to say - surprised by the opening, really thought I would be writing this one off until spring.

Its not over till the fat lady sings, i wont be waiting at the gates with my gear on the 4th
apparently it was on the news as well, but i didnt see it

i manged to see how bad the pier got battered. for some reason even though i was windy as hell in durham, me and my pal decided to go on our trip. turned up to roker and saw the water crashing into the poor pier.

so off the s shields we went to find that closed too.

any updates on above ?

Wasnt open last night when i had bairn down Roker park for illuminations
The link i posted a week or so ago seemed to claim it was open on the 4th (monday) but it was pretty vague and didnt state 100% the gates would be open on that date
