Roker pier closed

Just be down Roker pier to find the gates locked.
I went down with the intention of a couple of hours before work to have my first shot at the Mackerel from the shore this season. Been waiting for the right morning weather wise all week and today was perfect. Set up me old little coarse fishing reel with some new 10ib line last night and took me new spinning rod in the hope of some sport and hopefully Mackerel for breakfast but no such luck.
There were some other lads down there at the gates looking as puzzled as me as to why the pier would be locked on a fine day when the sea was calm.
If i hadnt took such lighter gear i might have tried from the ratty where i could see a few other anglers on the end but thought i might not have got enough distance on my casts to hit any fish (never used this rod before). Im trying not to get annoyed about it as im hoping theres a perfectly valid reason that i just didnt know about.
My main reason for going early was probably to beat the crowds but maybe i'll try later after work if its open.

Pier shut as the waves crashing over last night, watched last night as they hit the round end and rolled all along the pier until the beach. Rough sea last 2 days, slight i would say this morning when i looked.

Bollocks, well i guess there hardly going to keep checking it through the night and re-open it as soon as it gets better. Oh well fishing this afternoon it is then. Cheers mate.

The conditions are far from perfect to fish for mackerel , with the sea we have had the inshore water will be black, best off waiting for a few days of calm weather.

Was gonna go down early this morning myself, glad i didnt now...

Anyone else agree that they should have a "Open" or "Closed" notice on the same page as the Roker webcam?

Would save us all alot of hassle!

Macka i definetly agree with that idea! Could have had an extra 2 hours in bed this morning! Not sure if it'd be that easy for them to keep on top of like..

Just rang resorts office & its now open, gonna have a walk along with the mrs & the dog...

Would be rude not to take the rod :D

Just got back from the pier, done an hour with the feathers + spinner & blanked...

Quite a few lads on & they had nowt all day apart from some small coalies on the float just down the side of the pier wall.
