Roker pier Saturday night

Having not fished there since the winter I thought I would give it a shot with the main aim of getting a plaice as I've set a personal target of a 2lb plaice this year. Got there for 7.30 at the end to myself but on the way up asked a group of lads if there waste being caught and one said there's been 1 flatty all day? I really wanted a plaice so thought I'd fish anyway and see how it went. Anyway first cast resulted in a double shot of a dab and a flounder. Next cast resulted in a double shot if dabs. I then got a plaice around 35 cm. To cut a long story short that was pretty much the pattern for the next 4 hours. I finished at 11.30 just after I had my 30th fish. Results were a small codling, whiting and pouting. 1 plaice and countless flounders and dabs. Some were just touching size but there were a lot if small ones. Not a bad few hours really, especially as in my way off these few lads had still only had 2 small codling and a couple of crabs between them. I have a couple of pics but stupid phone won't let me upload for some reason

Well done mate, just a shame I couldn't join you as that place had my name on it lol......I wish!

I've had a shot of attaching the photo for you, maybe it'll work

I'd much rather have some fun and catch some lovely smaller species than put my rod away after winter like a lot of people. Roker is usually canny for the odd nice surprise such as pollock, wrasse, tadpole fish, shad, gurnards, lemon sole and even saw a John Dory was caught.

Canny session there Darren, sounds similar to my evening on Roker on bank holiday Monday.

100% this. If people take the cod goggles off there is some cracking summer fishing available on the NE coast. I enjoy my winter fishing but I really do love a warm summer evening standing by the beach rods in my shorts and a polo shirt :)
