Roker pier tunnel

After seeing the rescue on Roker pier at the weekend I was amazed to see that the tunnel was still in use. I knew it was there but did not think it was working. Does anyone know much about it ? Like is it lit or can it only be used by torchlight ? Is it dry inside or is it partly flooded, it is well below the water level when the tide is in.

THE access points ARE THE YELLOW POST JUST OUT SIDE OF GATES IT HAS AN HATCH BELOW THE POST TO GET TO THE END OF PEIR

no mate just a sloth when i was there lol

i got took off under the tunnel a few month back at high tide waves started washing over and couldnt get off by the time i packed up, the tunnel is about 7-8foot tall and around 6-7foot wide i was very dark muddy and wet lol probablys 1and a half foot deep of water but on a huge sea it will fill up more the coastguard told me there had seen it shoulder deep after a massive sea and he was around six foot,

Would have to knock me out to get me in there, bit of a girl when it comes to tunnels and the like, my mind would have it filling with water before it was even damp lol
