Spoke to one of the council guys this morning regarding the pier being re-opened to the public. He told me all the life-rings had been replaced after the last heavy weather, contractors are doing 2-3 days investigative drilling work - something to do with next years work/new railings etc.
He hoped/expected the pier to be open next week ?????????

PS - another of the guys said Seaham pier was due to be closed for major refurb and when completed open to the public ????????
(wish they would do that with Sunlun south pier)

Roker Pier is closed until the 18th December i have just being down and their has being signs put up all along the gates.
Sorry for inconvenience due to maintenance work it will be shut till the 18th December

Talking to a bloke on Ratty this morning who reckons the council are surveying the pier ready to replace the deck,and have to keep the rail tracks in position as they can't take them away as its a listed building.so every bit of rough weather is going to get under the tracks and lift the deck.But the 18th Dec sounds good to me as I am off work from the 20th.So I will be down there drowning worms as usual.

I was told about 3 weeks ago by a seaham club member that the pier will close next year for refurb work and the other pier may be opened up
how true that's is I don't know ?

it has to happen sooner or later , drilling samples were taken and wildlife inspectors from the agency were out asking about mating birds and wildlife before work goes ahead. I can see it being closed for a very long time also

Totally depends on the weather, forecast is worse for the morra so I would imagine
it will be closed !!!!!!!!
