Geordie Templeman?The Fishermans Locker

The port is looking to close roker pier from April to September 2014, this is for supposed resurfacing work...thats half the story, there is a channel going to be dug to lay pipes, we know this as one of the guys on here said his company got the contract, well this pipe is going to carry electrical cabling for cctv camera's to be installed, these camera's are going to be used to record and prevent crime and enforce byelaws, one of the new byelaws is to ban fishing completely from the pier, this being spearheaded by the head of security for sunderland port authority, simply because he hates anglers, and he is pushing through the ban of fishing before the work is finished, this was meant to lstay out of public domain, in order to prevent protest and legal issues, we need to get together and act now in order to prevent this happening.

rumours going round hendon prom might be closed off , no roker no hendon no seaham hall to drive on , no south dock, unbelievable and wee sit back and do nowt , about time for a organised march to show our disapproval before there is no where to fish FOOOKING FUMING

bad crack that lads if it happens theirs lads been fishing them spots for years you know they wont be happy until they ban us from the beaches and every where else I don't fish that area but you will get my full support

just hope s/s and Tynemouth don't follow suit,no Tynemouth due to close for up to 6, 8 weeks for repairs shortly and no fishing allowed for anyone. davy.

roker pier

roker pier

the only way is to get the local mp & councillors involved on the anglers side .
uk sea fishing bodies to give legal advice on how to go forward .
then again over the years a minority of anglers have not taken any notice of bye laws when the pier has been closed, fishing during the night by scaling the gates.
this also happens on the rathouse now fenced off but some anglers still go on this just helps the authority in the case to close the piers off totally.
roker pier is well known for its fishing and generations have fished there father & son & grandsons it would be a dame same to see it all go.
the pier itself is in need of repair and if they get the grant to open up the tunnel under the pier to the light house this will just strengthen there case to ban fishing completely, pedestrians only .
very sad state of affaires lads.

Fishing in Australia

When I visited Townsville Australia the local authority had a pier built it had stainless steel railings rod holders built into the fence also a stainless area to cut up fish, sink to hand wash sun shade over the top Nowt like that here.oppisite the entrance to this fishing area was a grassy lawn stainless steel barbaque free gas,out door gym.all free

yes m8 just goes to show that some councils think about there people and there sports and recreation needs.
sadly councils all over the uk are up against the wall with cut backs to there funding, job loses building/sports centres having to close it goes on and on.
leisure fishing is a major player in the uk more people go fishing now more than ever the government still gets a lot of revenue back on VAT from tackle sales and bait. but they don't give a flying f... about you.

Support it or lose it!!

Support it or lose it!!

I'm only an occasional visitor to Roker but I've just emailed the local councillors to ask for their support to continue access for anglers when it re-opens. Don't sit back and complain later :yltype:

Shame a lot of "Leisure" fishermen don,t clean there rubbish up after them.
I,v fished all over the UK,(Sea,Game and Coarse) and anglers are a lazy lot when it comes to taking there rubbish home.
I had to clean a right mess up last week at Durham after a coarse angler had left the place a right tip, and there was a bin not 20 yards away.
I,v also seen the same on rock marks all over the country. If you collected all the empty alcahol cans from these places you would get a canny weigh in.
No wonder councils are trying to close fishing venues when you look at the state they are left in...

a mite ruffle some feather's here, but al have me say,
pier closure's stink, but cambois has been closed for year's safety apparently, Tynemouth's only open to club fishing, lower level only. ! .
not a word mentioned about these fishing pier's, but all of a sudden we all need to drop everything and fight for roker pier.

a forgot, blyth pier is also under threat, and as for the litter, you'll get that anywhere, along with the dog and horse c**p on every beach.

it will be a shame if it gets closed only fished it a few time but like being said before some anglers don't help the rubbish all over the place stinks off p@@s no need for it then they start twisting . like the walkway lasts week total mess fishing line / hooks / and **** all over the place dose it real help .Hendon prom f@@ing disgrace theses anglers should be ashamed sorry so called anglers

The use of piers isn't as important to the average angler as it is to those with a disablity.
If you're old, infirm or have special needs of some sort you may well find the beaches inaccessible. Can you see a wheelchair going onto a beach? Can you see a youngster going down to the beach with a huge tackle box, rod, rod rest and all the other accoutrements?
OK, some may do just that but disabled people surely can't do it.

Closing the pier would have a huge detrimental effect on the very people who need all the assistance they can get to pursue their sport.

I spoke to Sunderland Council today about the rumour of the Roker Pier closure, I was assured that there are NO plans to close it to anglers or anyone else on a permanent basis. The pier will be closed from about mid April until November. This is to carry out remedial work. There are also NO plans to install CCTV. cameras,.
Tight Lines, Sam.
well thank's to sam harris let's hope this is true and the council dont go back on there word with angler's getting washed off and going on when the gate's are closed could give them all the amo they need be safe lad's no fish is worth it
