Is it right that I have heard that Roker Pier is to be closed in 2014 until at least December? Anyone know any more?

journal last week said it was getting a coat of tarmac and some repair work done but no dates stated

Been known about for ages, all part of the renovation works. Last year they restored the lighthouse, this year they are doing the pier structure including IIRC the pier tunnel which is going to be opened up to tourists (as is the lighthouse) once the work is complete.

The word on the beach is it's going to be shut April until November but if the work needs doing

According to the press today/yesterday its april until september and that is only if they get the go ahead to do the work that they want to do. From that I guess that it still hasn't been confirmed that it will close, but it is looking likely

Roker Pier.

It's going to be closed from the begining of April until at least the middle of November, depending on the weather of course. This is to carry out remedial wurk to the pier surface.
