Fi shed Roker on the strength of some good fish been caught in the area,me and the boy fished various locations using various bait combos and caught a small Thomas Codling, what a load of Pish, the odd sized whiting off the roundhead, not gonna call it fishing any more, just gonna call it standing,in fact i wont take any bait with me cause its a waste of money, just gonna take me rod down and put it on the railings and bark and swear at people walking past :o Do i sound bitter, you see what its doing to me:confused:

i passed a man and a boy coming off roker pier about 9 ish tonight, disconsolate, dejected and defeated. it wasnt you was it

It was not my friend,we came off about 4.30,i was the one pulling faces at people and talking jibberish whilst my young son carried all the gear off,but i think there were many folk went to the pier with great expectations as talk of the great cod fest of 2009 echoed around the tackle shops, sadly this was not to be and people will be left with mental scars of the day known as Black Saturday.
Anyway did you catch owt!!!;)

it must have been some other tired ,weary and heartbroken anglers i passed then. as far as the fishing goes i had a bumper night. struck into fish early on (after 4 hours) and pulled in a 5 inch whitey, it fought hard all the way, stripped line off just before it broke surface.
joking aside, you did the right thing leaving when you did. the weather deteriated into a force nine wet squal, it was quite outrageouse. when i left at 3am, their was two lads from ashington on the end drinking hot toddies to lift there spirits and 4 teenagers nearly in tears cos they where frightened about the sea state and weather they could get off the pier or not.....
seen 1 whitey and a small flatty caught in 6 hours off the end

Sounds like a canny sesh, did you risk the handball or did you take it round to the steps to land it,i tend to carry a drop net for such an occasion:D:D

I Have never seen the fishing so hit and miss for many years, even the whitings are sparce, had my fair share of Codling before xmas, but into the new year i have not had a good session,to be fair i have only been down a few times but everybody i speak to seems to be doing poor.
It would be interesting to get some of the boat anglers views as to wether the fish are there off shore feeding on something else so hence the fish are not coming inshore in great numbers.

or are the fish just not there at all

Reading around all the NE forums I get the impression this has been a really bad winter for shore anglers. The odd good fish is being caught I know but blanking seems the norm.A typical quote now is "I caught two small whiting so at least I didn't blank".A very sad state of affairs when I think what it used to be like.

I hope things do change for the better quickly, you may even see me out on Whitley Beach then !!!

I caught the ****tiest ever whiting i have ever caught in my life off Steetly last night. It was skinny blind in one eye and the other eye looked ready to pop. Look riddled with worm. Unhooked dropped 20feet down to the water splat then it swam off. If it had fingers i,m sure it would have stuck two up as it went swimming off under the water .
Mick.

The codling i caught was similar, about the length of my hand and no i havent got shrek hands,it was really skinny but managed to impale itself on a 6/0 pennel.I spent time and money last week digging bait also bought some,so quite an expensive session, six hours fishing, three rods out:mad::mad:,i keep saying to myself maybe next time!!!:casstet::casstet:

i was't happy about pools getting beat in the f.a. cup yesterday ,even that for me [a life long h'pool united fan]is better than the state of fishing this season, in all honesty pools are doing far better than the fishing at the moment and it should't be like that.

no scaley, i didnt risk the handball. i dragged it round to the steps where i eventually managed to gaff it. nearly had me eye out mate. took it up to rutherfords for a weigh in but lost it in transit as it must have fallen out of me pocket.
