Roker Pier

Fished Roker Pier roundend on Friday night with me mate Pondlife. Nice sea fairly flat but with a nice swell. Set up just after 5.00pm, a couple of bites early on but the fish not returning for another go. Sammy the Seal made an appearance but decided to go up the river. Eventually the fish made an appearance. Caught a nice Flounder (1.5 lbs), a couple of small whitey and a very small rockling. Used yellow tails, rag, frozen sand eel and squid for bait. Got one of the whitey on sand eel.
About a dozen or so fish caught when we left around 10ish. A lad had a codling 2 up with a small flatty.

Upper reaches of the Tyne and prob the Wear still holds alot of coal dust and setled oil, the chances are the flatty has been in and around one of them areas for alot of its life.

me mate caught this nice flounder of 1 and a half pounds from further up the river wear yesterday afternoon

so i guess hes daddy will be very proud of him LOL

Can't tell you yet as its in the freezer but I know flounder aren't the best tasting fish anyway.

your right, it was'nt that dark when you caught it, i remember it was quite paisty looking, but i think your new 500watt halogen spotlight headtorch thing gave it a canny tan from staring at it, almost cooked it infact.

yeah me and my m8 were there on the roundhead on friday nite. we did not leave until about 1am and a lad called brian caught a 5lb cod on rag. very small bite and a hug pull as he was reeling in. very nice lump! I caught small flatty and a whitey. not much really catching, a few bites but nothing to get stuck into...

Rumor has it that the trawler is in for around three months, so im suprised there is cod being caught off roker pier.

Been on tonight 6pm to 10pm with Blackrat and some others. Slow start but after the turn of the tide there were plenty of fish, had fish every cast up to the end of the match. Had 2 flounders, 1 dab and 1 whiting to count. Also had some undersize,small codling to lug and whiting, flounder and a plaice to rag and mackerel.

Fozally will be posting the match results later. Bloke telling us they'd had a 10.5 lber last night to rag.
