he must have the number to the office that opens and closes the pier

Ah right... good number to have definately. I have been down to roker many a time at 7-30am and found it to be locked.

elbeer, can you post the number if it's a public listing (ie not private/ex-dir), it would be handy for people on here to be able to check if the pier is open. Not a place I've ever fished but like many I may wanna try it out - I've walked Shields once 20yrs ago and never been back but didn't even know that shut at times....
