Roker Pier

Hi guys, thinking of going fishing again this weekend for the first time in a year or so and just want to ask if Roker Pier is open for fishing yet.

Thanks in advance.

As I have said many times on this forum, the council will keep it shut until end of March when they think the winter sea fishing is finished.

As usual the angling community just moans about it and does nothing.

wow he only only asked if it was open.
his first post welcome to the forum mate as far as i can tell it is shut to what day it will open is anybody's guess. shields pier would be a good shot or even the walkway. but if stuck there is always the ratty. hope you get out and catch.
the rivers might be good for small stuff, or if a member of seaham that will toss a few a fish out.

lets see bud, human waste, corners stinking of urine, empty cans, bottles, unused bait, dead fish, wrappers etc. a real picture which will project the city in a wonderful light to the tourist:D:D:D

I'd have thought that to be more a problem in Summer when all the p***heads go macky bashing.

Is it really like that over winter?

So shut it to all anglers because some idiots abuse it ?? Crazy attitude to have, it happens all over the coast cullernose point, dunstunburgh just to name a couple, shall we shut the whole coast ? Again because of a stupid minority ? The lad only asked if it was open, its attitudes like this that put new starters off and stops people posting on here.

May I apologise, I didn't notice it was your first post, very sorry for my curt answer.

Pier fishing is a very troublesome type of fishing. Unfortunately there is a huge number of anglers who use the piers as a dump for line, cans, food, bait and human waste. The council have a thankless task of keeping piers safe and open but the idiots make it even harder. Piers should be a local resource and tourist spot but are spoilt by the very people that use them.
Roker is a great shot but it will end up killed by anglers because the majority just use it as a dump.

I very rarely fish the piers now because of the idiots that are the majority.

Beach and rocks now, better fishing, better catches and better taken care of by the real anglers that fish there.

Piers are mainly fished by the Jeremy Kyle crew.

I would stay clear.

Good luck and tight lines mate.

Anyone ever noticed that Shields pier has bins all the way down that get emptied. Roker has no bins and stuff gets chucked everywhere, just a thought.

Never fished off Roker but Middleton pier's the biggest toilet I've ever been to.
Absolute ****hole frequented by lots of scruffy tramps. (not everyone but they know who they are)

The piers shouldn't need bins as the messy tw*ts should take their litter away with them.

I sometimes fish Blyth pier in the summer to stock up on mackerel for the winter pike and sea fishing and some moron even bothered to bag up their rubbish but then left the bag tied to the pier 🤔

Even beautiful marks like Dunstanburgh Castle get trashed and that's off the beaten track. It's a disgrace!

Maybe it is an opinion, but it is the way it is put across and yes it does put people of posting or asking for advice only to be shot down in that manner.

it is the minority that spoils it for everyone else.all the cut backs thats going on now the councils only need a small excuse to stop things hence spending less money.minority wins again.

Hi.interesting topic. I fish blyth pier it's not too bad in the winter although some dickhead had a fire. sigh!! (Can't educate pork ) However we all have phones with cameras is there not some way we could use modern technology to help with the problem. In addition someone was flying a drone over blyth pier last summer it probably had a camera fitted. Is that the way forward? ?

Videoing and drones spying on people fishing..........Are you serious..?

A lot of piers are private land owned by port authorities so that makes it illegal to video, take pictures without the owners consent.

Its a very long path but education is the only real way forward. Unfortunately most of the people dumping rubbish are thick, that's why they do it.!
