Roker pier

A lad got hit by a wave and smashed his back and knee off the railings, nasty looking accident.
I was on the pier for about an hour and some of the swells were massive, cant believe they opened it,bleddy eejits!
Seemed to take forever to get the lad off but seeing it was a back injury they probably couldn't be too careful, hope the kids ok.

About two months ago Sunderland Council made 600 staff redundant. Lots of experienced staff were let go and I'd guess resort services (who look after the pier) were as badly hit as everywhere else.

So now it will be contractors or inexperienced staff looking after the pier gates. Hence why it was open on Saturday when it really shouldn't have been and locked this afternoon when the sea was flat as a fart.

Don't expect it to get better anytime soon; rumour is they are going to get shot of another load of staff after christmas...

If he are anyone else tried to sue them it will be shut down to anglers for good but i agree poor decision to open the pier with a building sea and high tide on its way, guess it could of been worse and we may of been reading about more deaths.
