can you use beachcasters rated to 4-8 0z such as the shakespeare salt mx and an ocuma magnetix 20 for rough is ground fishing.

Would've thought it ok, when i first started fishing some 20 odd years ago at the age of 15 all i had was a cheap daiwa rod that bent like an elastic band (and that was just retrieving the sinker ) and a mitchel something or other multi, 602 ap i think ( wide white one with black plastic spool ). Caught plenty of cod in the rough stuff all the same. So if you use the right tactics, say pulley rigs and rotten bottoms i dare say you'll be fine :)

The Okuma MG20 is a winching engine!, more than good enough, a slosh30,535 or MG30 would be better no doubt but the MG20 isn't work shy.

just stick to the basic handlines guys on the pier its easier atleast if ya handballing it up its your fault if it comes off LOL

The thing is about small reels and heavier lines is that if you cast most the line off theres no winching power when yr down to the spool even if it says 6.1 retrieve. So in proper heavy ground u'll struggle to get the fishes head up quickly.
