buying a new boat this year, have fished out of Amble for a few years now and thinking of a change. I know a few of you chaps are based there whats your views of the place.

absolutley fabulous, but at a cost though, if you ever want to have a look around let me know, also with being at the marina has enabled me to make many new friendships... Norman, Dave Mason and many many more, you may know quite a few people down there,as many have came from amble....what type of boat are you getting???

cheers bob looking at the cost its cheaper than amble!. buying a Beneteau 620 should be here in March fingers crossed.

you buying it form Dave at amble boat co ??? we allready have quite a few benetaus in there, mainly 710\'s am sure they are breeding in there, one of the lads is getting a new 760 about the same time ( upgrading from a 710 ) there nice boats benetaus...sorry about the spelling!!!!

yes Bob buying from dave nice guy to do business with got a good deal and like the fact their local if there are any probs, there is a 760 in Amble at the moment lovely boat not much fishing room though.
did look at the ocqueteau Norman and must admit it was a very close run thing between both.

once you start to look at boats at that price they are all excellent craft, it boils down to personell choice an expected usage of the boat ie cruising or fishing.....entertaining ladies !!!! hee hee

must admit the fishing has been reasonable out of Amble this year nothing spectacular but very consistent. major drawback is the harbour entrance very tricky with onshore winds at low water, have at times been unable to get out when other ports have fished.

thats the only problem with amble ,have to catch the water and be careful on panboosh ,i worked the upholder 3 year ago. I had my boat up there for years loved to fish dunstborough ,no body bothers with the wrecks either there some good fish on them as well .im dying to buy another boat but our lass is having another baby instead

gary,

Did you fish any of the wrecks at the back of Coquet island ? We are heading up for a nosey round next spring , looks some real good shots up there .

Ron , I\'m in Royal Quays , it\'s expensive ( but so is amble ! ) like Bob said but it\'s about the best in on Northern coastline . You have access anytime and security is good .

You can get fuel whenever you want it as well, seen The Boys fuel up at 3.30am :D Slightly dearer but you can\'t shop around at that time of the morning!

Ron,
After having spent some years in amble marina and now some years (from being among first boats) in Royal Quays Marina I think I am in a position to answer your question ........................
There is NO CONTEST between the two. Royal Quays wins hands down
Theres a lot more staff at RQ and they are all helpul to the extreme,
There is no tidal problems at RQ,
There is 100% 24/7 security at RQ
The lock itself creates a security barrier that is missing at amble (access from river)
The people (boat oeners) at RQ are much more friendly and approachable.
The river Tyne is no problem for exit or entry.

At amble I used to sit for hours watching the tide whilst boat sat on the mud. When you did get out you had a limited time to return or else you once again became tide locked. As you said if a wind got up it was difficult to get in or out of the river because of the width and depth at the entrance ...... none of these problems exist in the Tyne.
Without doubt the water is clearer at amble but as for the fishing I`ve caught a lot more and a LOT bigger off the tyne , of course this could be attributed to the help of the people around RQ and the tyne, but then again that just lends more to the benefits.

I hope this is of help.................. (and no doubt see you at RQ soon)

norman ,
i take it you think rq,s is better ;) ;)

your right about the lads mind .
and the lock.
security.
the tide problem.

but i love the coastline at AMBLE ;)

Yeah gary, you dead right on every score RQ for marina but the water and scenery (especially coquet Island) is second to none at amble, closest we have to both is berth at RQ and steam to amble for a few trips a year. :)

thanks norman very useful info, have fished a few of the wrecks both north and south of Amble the 6 mile wrecks of the back of coquet can be a bit hit and miss, I find fishing over the reefs and hard ground more productive up their have had consitentley much better results cresswell and boulmer were the best marks last year although got spoiled a bit by maccies in summer. was planning to explore the area around alcan this year as their have been some good bass taken from the area around the hot water outlets.

I`m sure any info on Bass would set the lads away here ron, seems we dont see many (any) around the tyne.

Since I`ve been fishing the tyne area my thoughts of whats a good catch have changed dramatically, I remember cresswell was good with 7 or eight 4lb fish for the day and the odd 6lb, Now its a hunt for doubles on the wrecks ,,,,, and finding them as well (or far bigger in the case of KeithB).

No doubt see you a R.Quays soon ron :) :) :)
