User common sense mate, if there protected you SHOULD PUT THEM BACK, as they are the fish that could be future of the species, especially as there endangered. You sound a bit like the type of person who would catch any fish (including undersize fish) and keep it. it is illegal to take any unersize fish even if it is dead and washed up on a beach , i think it is a minnimum £2000 fine for taking an undersize fish ( no excuses ) god knows what it would be for taking a protected fish and if i saw you taking undersizse fish, i would have no hesitation in reporting you to the authorities so be warned

P.s. if You look at northeast1's pics there's an easy and distinctive differences between the herring and shads.

1. Shads grow a lot bigger, (so alot of people think they've caught a record herring!)

2. Herring have up-turned mouths like pollock, etc. Whereas shad have normal sort of fish mouths like coalies, etc, which also makes them look like small bass.:yltype:

A don't think everything under the sun was quite the amount a used. Was only saying as your opinion couldvhave sounded a bit softer(in words).

Other lads on here and myself included tried to explain the conceqences of what could happen if you were caught doing that. Even a mate of mine totally disagree's with ya.

Funny how am a loser like when am recongnised as one of the good young anglers in shields, with plenty of mates to back that up.

i don';t have to listen to anyone, iam me you are you! if you have a problem then come say it to my face, not over the internet like most people do. if a fish hooks onto my line then thats not my problem, i don't give a **** about these authorities who protect fish, there you go my opinion as you asked for. if there protected fish then maybe they should protect them more to prevent them from coming as close into shore... so kids can't catch them and get punished for it as they wouldnt know what they were and just take them home to brag to parents, and don't say if a kid caught 1 in them circumstances it would be diferent as they didn't know, because the law is so ****ed these days its 1 rule for everyone. and thats why i don't give a ****. but yeah i understand where everyone is coming from, if im caught with a protected fish from the free sea, "i will get more punishment this day and age than a peadofile does." SIMPLES!!!

kenny i see ur point with regards to fishing being the one of theoldest hunter gatherer activity in the world but the disregard of catch limits and catch sizes is in my opinion ignorant . u may now blatantly say **** codcatcher3000's opinion but what if the trawlers then decided to scoop everything up and then left nothing whatsoever with the attitude of what we catch is ours and **** the law . then when u have no fish ....who do u then place ur swear too . if u r catching for the pot fair enough . u r entitled to ur catch tho limits are set for a good reason .( stock control and breeding etc) we have digressed i believe somehow but then again if u caught a grannylasher do u eat it as well ?i believe to forum starter supermaguire was trying to inform fellow angles on this site that shad could easily be mistaken for herring and that they are protected . informed anglrs would then probably not take the fish home and thus avoiding fines if enforcement officers were out on the particular day ...havin said that how does rockling taste ?(~ unless u have nver caught it

so the odd ones that are popping up on shields pier which is what this topic is about, im going to be held responsible for the shortage in fish stocks in years to come even if i catch the odd 1 and take it home... for god sake calm down everbody we are talking about a fish here. its not the end of the world ya know am sure there is alot more than what is going to pop up on south shields pier.

Should just put this thread to bed, lots of opinions and we wont get anywhere.

Kenny is strong willed, it showed it during his last thread about boat fishing when everyone said dont go out, others are strong willed over the fish stocks.

Cant see us getting anywhere with it, you take the chance you pay the fine as they say, i will be putting mine back if i get any.

Right, I've had enough of this crap!!

I banned nick1 for his personal abuse of another member on the bass thread, there's one or two others who have come close to a ban.

From now on one crossed word, swear word or any more talk of breaking the law including taking undersize fish the offender WILL be banned.

That also goes for people who chip in just to stir the crap.
