Any lads or lasses on here go salmon and sea trout fishing?
Thats my main game,I fish on the Tyne and South Tyne during the season. When the close seasons on my club has comps on the sea and thats how I ended up on here:)
Its got to be said mind, sea anglers are even madder than the salmon lads, its all very well stood up to yer tits in a river in february but fishing off the rock marks in 60mph gales when its -8 really is nuts:eek:
I'm starting to like it:D

Hi Deeps. I fish for salmon and sea trout on the lower sections of the north and south Tyne. I’ll also chase the occasional trout there too. There’s always conflict for time with the river and boat season, then when they finish, the shore fishing is picking up and the cycle starts all over again.

Aye,great innit:)Not enough hours in the day for me.Mind, theres nowt better than a summer neet after the sea troots on the South;)
I'll stick a few pics up after the weekend when I've escaped from wor lasses hoos:o

i have been fishing the south tyne in a club for a canny few years now, love it to bits, awesome stretch of water we have as well, nowt better than getting a fresh run bar of silver on a fly ;D

I mainly fish the Coquet & sometimes the Tyne.
Fished the Federation waters for quite a few year.

How did you get on on the Coquet dazzer?I didn't get up last season but definately going next year.
I've been in the Fed since I was an egg:)The Tyne beats had a good back end but then again, the whole river did, there were some monster fish came in from august onwards, saw a few of them caught aswell!

im a member of the haltwhistle club, get plenty of decent fish, loads of fly water and some cracking spinning pools.

been thinking of joining the fed as well, never had a look at their waters, wouldnt know where to start lol

I had the worst season I've ever had.
Lost count on how many I hooked but lost the hookhold.
Only managed to land one fish, an 11lb sea trout.

I know what Dazzer is on about I lost loads of fish and only managed to bank my first seatrout on the 3rd of October, then that was followed by my first Salmon a fourteen and a half pounder the same day. I tend to fish the Wear but I hope to visit a few different rivers next season. Fishermen mad? never:D

I would rather be out freezing on a beach than watching the crap on the telly.

Loads of fish seemed to come off last season, maybe due to the fact that they were running straight from the sea for the most part.Their mouths are really soft until they've been in fresh water for a while and the hooks just dont get a good hold.Theres nowt worse than a good salmon coming off,who hoys their rod in when they do?:eek:I'm guilty:D
I probably lost twice as many as I landed last season but still ended up in double figures.Which is nice:)

Funny that SteveG, my Birthday is 3rd Oct, my sea trout was caught on the 5th Oct.
On the 5th Oct 09 I landed a nice 13lb cock salmon.

2010 season 1 sea trout 11lb
2009 season 9 salmon (biggest 15lb)
2008 season 15 salmon, 4 sea trout (biggest salmon 11lb) (biggest sea trout 13lb)
2007 season 8 salmon, 2 sea trout (biggest salmon 9lb) (biggest sea trout 8lb)

Love that back end cock fish dazzer, they look amazing in the tartan coat:)
Did it gan much?
My birthday is oct 25th so took the day off work(as you do)and had a lovely 10 poond cock from just below Hexham.Probably the best fight I had all year,it went mental! You would think they'd be knackered by that time of year but as I said before, the fish were running the tide and they colour up in the estuary.Soon as they smell that back end autumn water, they get the horn and nature takes its course.Awesome:)

Aye it went like a steam train, took it on a prawn.
I had seen the fish move next to a fallen in tree, went straight to the spot and had a take first time through but it spat the thing out.
Second cast it meant it and went ballistic once it knew it was hooked, I could see it shaking its head with the prawn in the top of its mouth, I think I was shaking as much as the fish lol.
Took about ten mins to get it to the net.
If you look at the photo, behind me is a tree on an angle coming out of the bank, the tree just to the left that is lying in the water is the one I took the fish from.

Lots of people dont like the use of the prawn, but I'm not one of them!
If your faced with a low clear river and the fish are lying deep its probably the best(only?)method of getting among them.
I've had a bit of success using 1" floating devons also in these conditions, fished very slow with a 10g drilled bullet on a paternoster type rig:)

The prawn can be good one day & rubbish the next.
It can either make the fish mad on taking it or it can empty a pool of fish.

It's strange how that happens, I have seen it go both ways.

Its interesting to hear all the different stories about salmon fishing.People who think the only way you should catch them is on the fly and others who think using Shrimp should be banned:rolleyes:.Most of my fishing has been for Sea trout on a night but after getting my one and only Salmon on a copper toby:eek: I will be trying all the other methods next season...... I have no shame. I did buy my first double handed fly rod this year and I will be giving it a go if I can get the hang of it.

The worst thing I found this year was people telling me I should have put my salmon back because it was a hen fish. I would be surprised if anyone put their first Salmon back but I do return most of my seatrout unless I have a bad year like this year.

I know what your saying about the mouths being soft they were moving through the rivers at speed this year but still enjoyed the fishing and I did have some very nice Brown trout on a night that I thought were Sea trout.

All nice fish lads never heard of the tartan coat before. LOL

Theres nowt better than flee fishing for salmon with the double hander, its what its all about for me.But!,if you want to catch fish you match the conditions and if that means prawns/flying c's/tobys/devons,then whatever, make the most of it.Its fishing not casting;)
On the hen fish issue, our club rules state that they are put back in october, its fair enough, the old girls are normally on the black side by then and ready to do what they came up the river for:)
No black or tartan fish should be taken, its against the law for one thing but if you get a nice bright hen fish in say august and you want one for the pot, knock it on the heed and enjoy!:)

I had my best season for a long time this year on the Wear, both tidal and fresh.
Only Seatrout to 7lb on the tidal stretch on the spinner( The Salmon don,t want to know on the tidal stretch),put some hours and walking in mind.

In the fresh i have had loads of Seatrout to 11lb on this.

ag310000.jpg

In September and October i had 22 Salmon to 18lb on the spinner and the prawn.
Two on the prawn, both 12lb.

A 15lb hen on the above spinner.

My last session with the prawn at Durham i had 5 fish for 36lb and lost 2 off.The river had dropped to 10 inches above summer level and was gin clear.
They all had sealice on them.Great sport on a 1-1/2lb barbel rod with 20lb braid. The Grilse were very late running this year. These are now in the freezer to be eaten over the winter.
