If anyone fancies a decent day fishing for wild Brownies with light gear try Kielder castle.
They do a day ticket for £7.50 which allows you to fish the rivers and burns that feed Kielder reservoir - It's a cracking days sport with brownies up to 1 and half pounds, and the occasional Rainbow turns up from the lake.
Been fishing it for years and never ever caught less than 8 decent pound plus fish in a half day's fishing. Personal best on the fly from the kielder burn was last year - 1lb 9ozs - safely returned.
Preferred tackle and tactics.
7 or 8 ft fly rod floating line 4lb tippet - various natural nymphs and wet flies - summer - dry fly patterns (may, hawthorn, black gnat etc)
5 or 6 foot light action spinning rod 8lb main line 3lb tippet - small quiver/clear bubble float or free line with a 16 hook for worms or brandling - using the current to pull it through pools.
I love fishing light stuff and it never fails to put a smile on my face
