the north east regional police fishing match took place today at sandsend .5 forces were represented with SOUTH YORKS being the host .registration was between mid-day and one pm,with fishing btwn 2pm to 7pm as per the e-mail sent to us.not having fished this flat shelfless beach before after paying the money etc,i went and had a butchers and set up .4 zones 10 anglers per zone.you pays your money you takes your chance and i drew peg 1 zone red.first hour plus fishing in next to no water but thats the luck of the draw.crab after crab brought in by myself and those around despite distance of cast bait used etc.rumours had it of a few flatties and as it went dark a small number of whities were caught ,one of the host force was two pegs up from me,canny lad he also doubled up as a steward, not that i kept him busy !!!.however at 6.45 pm i cast my last bait out and tidied up as did most around me.i gave my remaining bait away to a couple of young lads at 6.55 pm as again did most others in our two zones. At seven on the dot i reeled in and packed away.
well surprise surprise at 7.05 pm the steward from our zone stood next to us and took a phone call from the match organiser to say the match had been EXTENDED until 7.30 pm!!!! EH WHAT you cannot do that said myself and several others from our two zones, then came the situation of half off the beach and the rest still fishing including the MATCH ORGANISER who was in the area where the fish were now starting to show.at 730 pm the remainder came off the beach and we went for the presentation and raffles.despite an official complaint being lodged by N'BRIA and being backed by DURHAM (THANKS IAN!!) THE RESULTWAS ALLOWED TO STAND WITH ALL FISH TO COUNT INCLUDING FISH CAUGHT AFTER 7PM.well pleased for DURHAM who won the team prize and blackrat for his backing but sorry you cannot change the rules after the stated time to finish has elapsed.please dont think its sour grapes its not ,if a match is over an alloted period then that is the finishing time.im posting this for other club secretarys views ie sless ,yours truly etc as i think it was wrong and the match should have been declared null and void.cheers

just goes to show
coppers are bent
hahaha

jokes aside
it shouldnt have been allowed
i hope you bring it to the attention off the organizers
that this shouldnt be tollerated
and make sure that next years comp doesnt go that way

if frank nesbitt was running it
he would have scarpered them all
big bloke aswell

cheers sless, you cannot extend a match after its finished,if someone had walked the beach and informed everyone at say five or six oclock fair do's but not after!!!.on the plus side and a big one it was we raised £450 for a childrens hospice in south yorks

Got to agree David, times must be sorted out before and stuck to. I can just imagine if there was an open up here and that happened, oh dear lol.

Jim.

Aye Zippie, wat can I say,I know we (Durham) won the event, but the whole event ended in a shambles,I for one, thought the comp ended at 7pm,I unclipped my traces, packed up and deposited my rag,lug n fish bait into the calm waters only to be told at 7.10pm that the comp was still running, this resulted in me running into the sea trying to salvage what bait I could(NOTHING) I then had to waste good live crab and whites on my last baiting looking for a stray Whitey or stamp sized see through dab, which id managed to catch for the last 5 hrs.!!.
I know we could have null n voided it,but we would ov only had to put ourselves through the pain barrier again at the location or even worse Hornsea. At least I can tell you that non of the Durham team caught any more fish after the 7pm end time,so we dont feel to bad.
Ps The after dinner meal ov Hot pork pie, mushy peas n chips was a bit strange...!!! but the Stella was canny, before and afta the comp.Me heads Thumpin.
Bet Terry has a great time with this subject.

Yup, I did the same and chucked my bait at 6.55.......and I was just waiting for that 10lb cod heading towards my size 4 Kamasans which would have held like Arkwrights till.

Joking aside, it has left a very sour taste in lots of anglers mouths (but that might have been the pork pie, yum yum) and should have been scrapped.

As it stands, retrieve the dummies and well done Ratty and Co. and not forgeting a well done to Charlie Bath who won the individual trophy with 7 fish.

There's always next year.

Was fishing near to Zippie and the leek, and thought the comp was a joke.Blackrat, fair play to you for your thoughts about it as well, and congrats on winning it,plus well done to Charles Bath for being top individual.

My bait was swimming round the North Sea at 7.00pm as well!!

A good comp spoiled by very poor organisation.

Must admit ya rite there Peter, bout last year,The only thing you forgot to do was invite the fish..!!Even the year before was ok when Durham ran it and we had to change venues at the last min due to bad weather. Its not as if the Force running it have to do much,JUST THE START TIME AND FIN.TIME AND YOU HAVE CRACKED IT.Do you think the curse ov FLATHEAD had anything to do with it.;)Hope thats not two years off the belt that you have blanked.Did you catch on Tues..!!

Yeah got my first Sandsend fish in three attempts............ flounder about the size of me hand.

Mind you the bait probably got loads more when it was swimming free at 7.05pm :)
