Sandsend Car Park last night.

Castaway

Decided to try me new rod out after a nightmare of a trial on Thursday night, when I put a string of feathers on and had a few casts, experimenting with the magnets and the friction thunbwheel as I went. Anyway on about the 7th or 8th cast, tried a big one, big mistake. The weight and feathers went about 175 yards unfortunately they were not attached to my line any more.
Loaded up with some new Daiwa line and armed with crab, sandeel and ragworm, headed for a nice easy mark to fish from, really just to get used to the new rod. Sandsend car park the destination. Got there about 7ish with high tide at 8.50pm. Very gloomy all the way down. Quite murky all night. A good sea running, thought it looked quite fishy.

About half a dozen lads were fishing and I think I was the only one caught anything a small coley and 5 bearded rockling on my new rod and a small flounder on the old one. The rod cast like a dream, although I had conservative settings on the magnets and didn't try for any casting records. Feels good and effortless and I think thats the key.
A bit hairy coming back over the moors in the dark and the fog but a worthwhile night I think. I'll definately fish this mark again, looks good for the winter.

you look fairly high up on that last pic, nic bit of concrete in front to stop you getting washed over though, whats behind you ??

Is it the pantomime season?
No seriously, its a big open car park. My car was parked in the next set of bays as occassionally an odd wave would just come over the top. Its not as high as you would think, at high water the level would be 8-10 feet below the wall.
Its a high water mark, no more than a couple of hours either side of high tide. There are rocks at the base of the wall which are uncovered beyond these times and they go out for about 20-25 yards, sand and flat rock after that.
In the height of the summer on a nice day the car park will be full and not be fishable but there are marks further along towards Whitby, like the slipway, the prom and the beach which should be ok.

i like fishing with two rods-when they are alongside of each other like in the photo its much easier to make out a bite/slack liner.

looks a good spot to fish from.

Mick.
