Saturday

Do you have any good links for weather reports richy? Looking to go out Sunday but the report I've looked at changes all the time.

Cheers for the advice at cullercoats Arthur, that should make life a lot easier. Are you out Sunday was thinking about giving the new boat a run out.

In order of my preference (If I go fishing I usually look at all of them and see where they all agree or disgree, e.g. if all say the same its fairly likely to happen)

1. Magicseaweed: In my opinion gives the most information, including charts, weather maps, swell, swell direction and tide

2. XC weather: also tels you visibility and cloud cover

3. windfinder/; probably the most accurate in wind speed

4. Navionics (part of my iphone marine navigation software)

Just look at today

MSW: 12-27 mph SW and swell 1.5ft northerly with slack low at 1111. When Northeast was out the tide and the primary swell were running against a very fresh and gusty offshore wind. Had to be uncomfortable

Tomorrow:Wind 12-20 W, slack low at 11.45, swell 1-2 ft northerly, cloud 50%, slight rain

tide and swell from the north until lunch will make the morning choppy, after lunch a milder wind.

I would say: choppy and rough in the morning, better but wet and cold from lunch time

I would stay at home

Yes pretty unconfortable out there this morning as the forcasts predicted, but not unfishable by any means .... if the fish are playing game that is (or are even there).
Brief spells of excitement and you forget about the cold bumpy conditions when theres a bite or a fish (like scotchie time even this morning :) ), but, when it was relentless with nothing coming aboard the cold, damp and bruises start to creep in.
Never mind though twas better to have been and tried and failed than to never have tried at all, at least I'm fully fuelled up and ready for the next trip ... :) :)

Oh and yes I would agree with K it does looks snotty for tomorrow unfortunately

What worries me is that there is forecast for those damn northerly wind again for next week.

Lets hope they are wrong

Well, after a quick call to CTC Marine, me and Allan are taking the Jester out of the water tonight for a quick dash down to get the engine's first service done, then back in the water tomorrow night before the sea picks up again mid week..:)
Then all set for the fish coming in.....:D

Well that's me not getting out for another weekend then!!! Really relying on a getting a look out tomorrow as my first proper session of the year. At this rate it will be June before I get a chance to post a catch report!! On the plus side my stocks of shads and twin tails are looking very healthy!!

Yer expected the conditions we ended up with today apart from the swell was closer together than i expected as it had swung a straight south for a while before going back south west and with the tide in full retreat it was always going to be abit lumpy early on until the tide changed at 1pm. We had hoped to stick it out but with no bites, rain, wind that felt -5 and a building sea the pub came calling in the end.

Maybe Monday if not Monday then Friday if not Friday then Sat/Sun :) its part of the boating game.

Well early days but so far Friday and the weekend is looking a no go AGAIN based on the wind direction and gusts, i am sure it will change many times before then...need my fix twice a week now at least :)

I Richy I think next weekend is a no-go, Windfinder/Guru are both giving strong Northerlies for Sat dropping away Easterly for Sunday -just to keep the swell on.
Got to feel for the Charter guys, this must be the worst start to a season ever !!!!!!!!
This is the weather for the rest of the month though, need that jetstream to sort itself out sharpish ( its nearly June man )

...apart from last year

Dont know about you mate but we were catching fish on the wks back end of March last year, and using shads !!!!!

Davey..............

Sarah JFK had 50 fish last Saturday

I think comparing last season with season is not useful as both starts were fairly grim.

I think the algae blossom 2013 was probably one of the worst ever and I still see a green colour of Whitburn and Sunderland.

Water temperatures of well under 10C in mid-May also don`t help.

Lets see it from the positive viewpoint: All the nutrients washed in during the record rain 2012 floods can only be good to get the food chain going and once the weather has settled, we might get a cracking 2013.

That is the only way to see it....I hope and wish

:red::yltype::)

Yeah you could be right with what your saying, but the bottom line is we need some settled weather/temps etc and hopefully let battle commence !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last year i did well up until July then after July it was hard going until i packed in Mid Oct. This year is the worst start i have known but it is not just our waters, the lads on the west coast or reporting the same, sea temp colder than normal, sea as green as they have seen it and no fish.

I am still holding out for Friday :)

Best of luck for Friday Richy but its looking unsettled right up to next Tuesday when theres a canny window of light winds -only the one day tho then back northerly !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
