The one we use is a Danforth I think Glen, it certainly get's a good hold.

We tie the top eye to the chain to form a trip.

i keith , we tripped the last one , but the rope must have been going, as it snapped trying to trip it, dont know if the chain had getin stuck, its all i can think

cheers

glen,

what ya recon about sats weather?

Down shields last night and i would nto go out in that, big NE swell and building. Seen some divers going out and the boat was all over the shop...unless the diresction changes then it will be a no no.

I can guarantee nice westerlies throughout August if thats any use. Its a dead cert. Cos that when I'll be on the west coast of scotland and still unable to get out

I , looking like northerlies at the weekend. Barstuard

It was forcast westerlies a few days ago , but changed round when I started sorting me fishing gear out.

You don't fancy heading up their a bit earlier do you Mark lol.

might be sneaking a week in at the end of the month, saying nowt though in case he weather fairies are listening

Mark

If you have a boat at the west coast then you have used up all your luck you lucky b***er :) I have dreamed about taking a boat out around there for tope fishing and pollack fishing, also got some wrecks up that way..the fishing would be so great.

I used to go out on a boat from Drumore but the owner died 2 year ago not been out since...thier is always off your marks but it's not cheap and booked up.

much further up. Have SOund of Mull, Loch Sunart, cairns of Coll, the small isles an the lower sound of sleat on the doorstep!

off topic from the weather but (just to cheer myslef up)......

bought the second boat to leave up there. All part of my cunning plan. Applied to Crown Estates a few years back and got my own mooring already (best 70quid I ever spent) got a boat to leave on it permanently. the idea being my dearly beloved, will believe I have to go up there a to more often than we do already and be ok with it! Usually manage at elast 6 full weeks a year. The moorings a scary one to get in and out of if you don't know where the hazards are but has the best views in the UK IMHO. westerlies and you get a standing wave at the end of the channel anything up to 10 or 15 feet! Have had to surf that one in a few times. Missed out at easter this year so getting very itchy to get up there. Hopefully buying a caravan on the shore this year (watch this space for the ultimate angling retreat) Even if the seas are bad the bay is usually accessibly and ull of all flavours of flatties, and there's still plenty plenty fish to be had from the rocks

my mooring at half tide, the big rock in the middle of the channel is the killer when its covered!

on the way out at half tide, all those rocks submerge at high water, so the zig zag over them to get in is fun:

I stayed up their on the edge of loch sunart for my honeymoon a couple of years ago, lovely place. We hired a boat and did a little fishing. Wildlife was beautifull loads of seals, fish eagles and dolphins about.

Killer drive up their tho.

Mark... that Looks like a horrible place , i bet you have to drag yourself up there with the family for your hols, must be made worse with the thought of all them unfished places teaming with stacks of different species...NOT NOT NOT !!!!!
Since selling the boat last year i bought a motorhome and plan on spending quite a lot of the summer in the same type of horrible places, looking at horrible scenery...yee haa cant wait

how bob!

yee alreet?? hows the shoulder??

get yourself up there, if your in a camper there's some awesmone places to just pitch up for a night or 12. Lots of PBTM's (potential brown trouser moments) on the roads though, but all part of the fun

we'll be there all of august hopefully, and on the few miles of sand on the other side of the bay you'll be lucky to count a dozen people

we've been toying with the idea for a while.

Its getting better Mark, but by no means fixed yet the surgoen reckons it can take up to a year to recover properly, i am realy looking forward to doing some fishing this year from the shore, hope i can remember how to cast, its been more than 2 years since i cast from the shore, got the camper out of storage today getting it ready for many jollies over the next few months.....so see you in scotland, whats the dreaded midgeeeeeee situation like up there
