Having not been fishing in the Whitley bay area since i was a kid I've been champing at the bit to get out there and do it again....I've scoured the web, and this website for hints, tips, ideas and I thought I was nearly there in terms of mental preparation. I've religiously checked the tide times and I've also asked fellow site members for help and advice.

So what went wrong?

I was sat at my desk this afternoon looking at the rain come down outside - I'd already figured out that, weather permitting, the next best tide would be next Tues/Wed evening for me to pop my cherry and finally get out and fish.

Come five o clock the weather seemed to clear - and i made a spur of the moment decision to get my rod and go down to the rocks at whitley and fish the low tide - spinning or floating.

Well - I'm stupid aren't I? The sea is choppy, the colour of pea soup and looks altogether a lost cause. But did i turn round and go home? No I went down anyway - clambered around the rocks for an hour, throwing my lure this way and that. getting wet to the knees by crashing sea spray...

I've decided I'm not doing that again - I shall be more scientific next time and wait for better weather conditions.

So I'm going to wait until next Tues/Wed and I'm going to go down to the mud flats at North Sheilds fish quay and I'm going to fish for flatties - weather permitting this should be a more sensible and hopefully more productive session. Lesson learnt....for now

Did it again...

Did it again...

...didn't I?

Bl**dy sunny evenings!! Lull you into a false sense of security don't they?....I went down to the Pipe - mainly to scope it out, but I took my telescopic and a lure with me in case...

I was only wearing trainers and should have probably stopped just next to the prom'...but like a moth I was drawn in

Upshot of it all?

I got wet - again

Still learning so it seems.............
