I,ve got the same motor as yours, they are bulletproof, Ive heard stories of them being dropped overboard picked up a couple of days later and having a bit of a clean and starting again, they are certainly not the most green engine around...lol..with all the smoke, oil and fuel it seems to leave in its wake but easily worked on and all parts are everywhere on ebay, but as an auxillery its a perfect choice, just a word of caution, don't run it for more than a minute out of water, some say you can but I wouldn't chance it, good luck and hope you never need to use it.
 
Yup, with Keith on that one 10:1, but have checked on Keith's link and motors manufactured after 1978 are 25:1, so check your engines age using the number on the engine and the check list on Keiths link.
 
Trev, Ive checked the chart and your is a long shaft version built in September 1977 so its looking like you will be using 10:1 too. (Great link by the way Keith.)
 
you can rejet the carbs to get it to 25:1

superb motors that will last for ever on very little if any maintenance
