Seaham Marina update 22/2/11

Those pics are from a few weeks ago by the looks of it, the gang plank is still out of the water and the dock is dry.
They are waiting on the arrival of the gate, it requires a police escort during transport.
Its completion was estimated to be mid may, but by the looks of it that may be a little optimistic.

still puzzles me why they didn't put the lock gates on the next piers out.

given the big big swell that can run in there, wouldn't want to be locked out waiting for the tide. accidents waiting to happen I reckon

Very true mark, i have asked this question on a number of occasions, but never seem to get strong answer about it.
Dont get me wrong, for me Seaham marina is a godsend, But some of the drawbacks are huge with the one you mention being the most problematic.
I had often thought about having a gate near the whit pole, but as with anything it all comes down to money.

Also wondered wether they would refuse to open the gate if there was a bi swell running as it used to hammer right into the inner dock. would put a fair old bounce on the nice new pontoons.

definitely not a place to be in a small boat if it gets snotty

well today the dock gate arrived with 2 police escorts they had to remove some of the weigh bridge to get the truck carrying it through the gate is being fitted today and then there will be tests here is a couple of pics i got while at work the gate is huge

£££ anyone know the fees yet ?:yltype:

yeah were working on gate today, and the marina was partly flooded and there was a big crane with lifting gear next the piles to the gate but couldnt tell you what they were doing? maybe they were testing gates as it was high water at the time:question:

they have began the process of removing the coffer dam, they are also letting the dock flood now, they tested the gates seals by filling in between the dam and gate to see if there were any breaches and it was fine.
Was told work is expected to be completed within 6 weeks.
Price still hasnt been released to the public, but there is a figure going about.
I was told all details will be released in around 2-3 weeks.
