Headed out again this morning, and what a totally different experience it was to last week. the see was calm the wind was slight and the sun was shinning. I blanked again and i may be considering taking some bait next time :red: then again to be honest i had a cracking morning blanking, anyway here's a few pics of the trip.

Great pics and report :),just goes to show, you dont need to catch to have a good trip out :)

Your Yak setup looks the dogs doodahs Phil :)

There a popular yak and i love it, it was quite stable in the rougher water last weekend. Unfortunately i don't have anything to compare it to, one negative I've found so far is that its a heavy bit of kit and that makes loading it on to the car difficult, either that or in getting soft lol but like i said i dont have anything to compare it with and ive managed to load and off load it on my own. From what I've read the longer bigger kayaks tend to be more stable and track better than the smaller lighter ones.

Phill , try not to get hung up on just using lures ie non bait , the fish will come to lures ,however this time of the year is really hard going so my advice would be use every stratagy/tactic to" catch". Then if using two rods you can compare results, later in the year lures will outfish bait but at the moment anchoring up and getting a scent trail working to bring fish in is often the best stratagy especially early morn , evening and darkness, hope this helps..............Dave. ps. 2weeks ago was out fishing was hard had one big whiting on bait and lost a good fish on other rod which had white isomes on.

is that trow rocks in the background
three of us fished shields beach sat 3 till about 7
we didnt get any fish till it got dark , and then only on bait with the rubby dubby helping to keep them interested and in the area we were anchored up in
keep at it the fish and the weather will be with us soon jeff

Check you out Phil !!

I aint been fishing for the last tow months (too much surfing im afraid!) Been surfing the south end of the beach a fair bit when I can..... defo seems like a nice spot for kayaks down there, stupid surf kayakers have been chuffing me off though!!

Always fancied the fishing from a yak, sort of price do they go for?

You can pick a second hand one like mine for about £300. How long you been surfing for, i ain't had my board out for about 4 years now. Dug my wetsuit boots and gloves out to use on the kayak. I remember snapping a fin of my board after warning a "goboater" if he dropped in on my wave again id lance him with my board, he just didn't seem to understand it was him who would come of worse if i crashed into his head, long story short he dropped in on me again, i went across his boat instead of bailing out i lost a fin and he didn't drop in on me again lol

Nice pics mate, take my hat off to you lads that fish from the yaks in the winter, too cold for me, normally april/may for me. Although not as accessable, I find the area around souter/whitburn far better for yak fishing compared to the big beach/trow area. Keep persisting, and you will reap the rewards!:)
