Master models only, so lots yet to do ............................... but ........

next generation shad lures :) ..... lots of probs to overcome I think with long thin areas of mould to fill etc etc but sure it will work out eventually, here are the basic models .......... :)

the traditional shad but a little longer than previous and more importantly a boom to tail that is oval with less width than height which should initiate more side to side waggle swim ;p)

and a new twin tail (if it fills)............ I wonder who will test this one ? :) :) :)

then, same again but after a bit of fine finishing :p)

hopefully with a bit of invention these might fill ok ......
;) :) :)

roll on march :) :)

Brilliant Norman,
can't wait for the report on the first fish with the Norshad or NorTT Turbo................

Great job Norm :), the head of the twintail looks like it was turned on a lathe, or was it a bit of patient hand carving
Could you inject at 3 points, one for the head and one on each tail
Looking forward to the finished ones...:)

:) :) aye chris with all my 6 hands at once :) :) :) .... but may need something like that, depends on how quickly I can get the plastic in, or maybe it'll be like lead casting and need the mould warm to keep the flow of material before it gives best results ..... time will see ( but I have to make it yet :) :) )

I know I am dumb Norman, totally useless with my hands, but why do you make the shads from wood? What do you do with them then? How do they then become "plastics?"

Yours, Mr Stupid. :red:

Mark, I'll get some pics together and do a "how to" thread, it may be of use to a few others as I have had a few similar questions (give me few days or so :) )

The twin tails are normally cast in a single sided mould Norman, if that's the right terminology? They just pour them into the mould.

Pretty good handiwork Norman :)

I wonder if a conventional two part mold might work if it was then cut at the right angle to expose most of the flat tail section but allow the body to mold all around. A hybrid between conventional and what Ray has just mentioned. The mold would have to be obviously standing at an angle for this to stand a chance and maybe a bit vibration might help the air bubbles out.

We use a lot of epoxy resins at work and it is a bit of a black art getting the right finish on some encapsulations.

Looking forward to your updates.

Jonny :)

Ray, and jonny, ....
yeah seen the single sided mould, but prefer the dificult double sided ;) mad , yes :)

in the single sided you have (or end up with) a flat piece at top but this can be avoided by making the master with the top of the wormy bit level with the tail top face ...... :) :) I'm going for symmetry lol but may revert to single sided if it does not fill properly :) :) :) ....... lifes a challenge :) :)

wish me luck :)

Was gonna offer to try some of the new products out ......

Not so sure now :D :o:o:o

Keep up the good work lads, look forward to some pics of the new shads.

Brilliant

Norm, I think what you have taken on board here is absolutely brilliant :) I can't wait to read the "How to make your own shads guide" when it comes out. I wonder if it would also be possible to add any kind of slow release flavouring to them, or might that be a bit too adventurous? I suppose if that could be done a product would already have been marketed!! but maybe not!!;)
In any event what you are doing here is great and I can't wait for the next posts - it's a right rivvetin read.
Ohh how I wish I'd stuck in at woodwork and metalwork etc when I was a kid, hey ho: Keep up the good work mate, it is all very thought provoking as to what can be created with some moulds, plastic pvc etc and a creative mind!!! I won't go there as I see some ladies may already have their orders in.
Well done Norm :)

Well, just to finish off this thread ...... I've just completed and opened up the two new moulds of these models (slinky mk-4 and twintail mk-1)

It was a bit more difficult to set the hook in the twintail (due to it not being on the split line) but I'm sure the next version will solve that, however, being diffcult never stops it hapenning :) :) :) so .....

The initial opening of the new slinky mk-4 (just before removing the Master model) .......

Then the twintail ...

and finally the first couple of casts .... (without failure so far .. :o) ... :D

A major benefit with these twintails (I think :) but time will tell) is that they have a weighted hook already moulded into them ... which is the most difficult feature of the mould) ....

This is the hook that's embedded in the twintail ..... (a further complication as it also required a lead head mould specific to this shad) :D but all done now so just have to ..... make em ! :)

soon be time to find out if it was all worth it :) :) ... nearly march :)

ps I'm putting together a "how to do it" thread .... but it seems to be getting rather a long read ........... :) ... later
