noticed a few times in the season gone that the shad lads:D were sometimes losing the whole shad:mad: and just getting their weight and a bit of line back:mad: ive been planning and scheming:) and was thinking:confused:hows about using a piece wire of line next to the shad,say about a foot long:question: its claimed some of the wire ties as easily as mono:) thoughts/comments welcome:exclam:
 
I lost a couple of big juicy blue shads this season ..... :p:p Cut their tails off with scissors trying to cut off the (very tight) hook protector .... :mad2: :p :) :D

Are you talking about biteoffs Lingking?? , the only time I've lost a shad is to a snag , never had one come off in a fish , I've had a couple ruined because they were so far down the cods throat that I couldn't get them back out without mangling them. I use 30lb amnesia from the swivel to the shad , never had a problem ????

i too have had no bit offs but have lost on the wreck etc think if you up the strain to keep the shad you will risk loosing the weight etc which will make rigging up again harder and the costs increase.

...or I suppose will anyone admit to throwing their new rig overboard ready for the drop and assume it was connected to the mainline? :red::D

I think less is best in rig design for the boats - a shad ends up costing about a quid anyway so to add to the possibility of losing one by then increasing the risk of losing everything would be a no no for me
 
Seemed to work well for people this year shads, i only had 2 cod and 1 ling on them this year, twin tails and pirks kicked ass every time for me.

yep seen two rigs go over board with out being tied on.....wont mention any names thou :)

aye sorry aboot that:)to be specific,fish takes shad:D:Dgets wound up quite a few turns,10 to 50 then line goes slack:mad: wind it up the rest of the way,only to see weight and a bit of line with nowt on:(
 
Alright Lingking, as Ray mentioned before i think if the lads were using descent quality line and knots they would have boated all their fish. Personally i dont tend to loose many shads at all compaired with daylites, muppets, etc. had a few hooks straighten out though, pair of long nose pliers sorts that out.

20lost, did you only go out 3 timed last year :)

I cleaned the tackle shops out 3 times this year and still got nothing left :) wont be long man, 180 days give or take a couple until it starts all over again.

Done it twice with anchors (both newly made and painted) not tied on, felt a right prick:rolleyes::rolleyes:
