Well as Norman has already said in his post ! The cod catching season is well underway !:D
We set off early this morning Keith picked me up at 5am and we met up with Daren for his first trip out with us:p ,because there was a few things to do on the boat before we set off it was prob about 6am or just after at the pier end, only to find POACHERS on the best cod catching marks:)and they were hauling them in ,but after a slow start we started to catch a few then a few more, changed location a few times only to find a few more cod ,They are all over the place for a change
It was a toss up for who was top man today but it wasn't me and it certainly wasn't daren:olol
Great day great Crack and a few cod to take home ,the total catch of the day was................

30 cod to keep (John done the bizz with the blade)
a few jocks that were put back for Steve to catch;)
Totally enjoyable even in the strong wind
cheers to the crew for performing for a change;)
Bert

me? happy?

Canny banter over a few chucks with Jim, Ali & Ray last night , glass of wine or two, up early, out the piers for 6, breakfast served and quickly necked (cheers Norm ;)),had a bit codling fun, couple of pints and one or two bits of pie in the hive, quick dash for a shower, back out to meet the lads for a beer or 4, took 3 points off the smoggies, back to the clurb for another beer or 4, back home just as Mrs B is serving the steaks, 3 btls of white to round off.

I hate it!!!! :D:D

Fish everywhere this morning, if only we'd had some proper bait, that crab is CRAP!!!!!

Aye Keith your right there (NOT!) about the crab LOL :)

Great day out lads ........ we`re off for the start of the season yeeee haaaa

cherrs for the trip out bert im still a bit green around the gills after 2day boat fishings not for me (anyone want to buy a boat)LOL i kept on shaking my fish off anyway:) didnt want to show ya up ya see with me bieng a geust and all LOL :) NORMAN ya need to buy some crab LOL

Canny day for you Keith and your team lol, pleased you's have stayed up makes the patter and banter all the more enjoyable next season.

My mate Geordie was out today he did ok using Crab, must have been a bit of luck for him :D,he was out of Blyth in a private boat said all fish were around the 3lb mark.

nearly forgot.............well done,great report ;)

haha Darren. it was only a little bit bumpy, you do get flatter days honest .......

and yes your right about the crab ...... all the fish we caught on crab had the full hook right down whereas all caught on lures were mouth or lip hooked. This leads to the obvious that when the fish see/sense crab they simply take it all in "with a short intake of breath" whereas with lures they attempt to bite at them in curiosity, generally resulting in a hookup but not as total as with crab. my thoughts anyway ..... :)

Yes your right norm about the crab and they get even more excited about it in the coming weeks when they start to peel ! We only had 10 fresh peeler and about 20 frozen (thanks Sixfoot);) along with squid and rag cocktail and also stinky tigers :p !!
One downside though ..........i will have to start to make my own rigs up now instead of raiding someones tackle bag ,busy week ahead for me then lol
Do the words "VERY OVER-ESTIMATED" and crab go together in the same sentence ????

Yup crab works ......... but... our best take on the day was ****** ****** ooops nearly let it out (sorry tony I know it`s a secret) ... :)

haha yeah the rig that caught the first (and several) fish of the day is back in me "Used but still available" cardboard box for next time (with the same lead still attached ! lol :)

your pretty much right there steve, as was said yesterday "Keep it simple" (and it`s not the one for the spring run) :) .
Quite surprising that lures worked so well really since the water was fairly murky, would have expected bait to out fish but it was about 50/50. As mentioned earlier in berts thread I think the fish were more curious than hungry where the lures were concerned.
